(Part 1…?)

“We used to be best friends,” The hero murmured, gazing out the window of their room. The moon shining so bright, they tore their eyes from it. The light shining through the glass, illuminating the whole place up. They sighed. “Perhaps, something more intimate that I refused to put a name on. We both refused to.”

“Dad, were you guys more than friends?” The hero’s child, a fourteen-year-old, asked them. Their eyes animated with wonder, their lips curved up a little. The hero chuckled, as they patted the teenager’s head.

“You should go to sleep now, hmm? It’s getting late.” The hero murmured, moving from the place they were standing and striding to where the other was sitting on the bed.

“Buttttttt, I have to know.” The fourteen-year-old whined, shaking their head as their parent picked them from the bed by their arm, in one sweep. “Where are they now? Do you know?” They asked again.

“No, I don’t know where he is right now, and nor do I wish to.” The hero said, eyes filling with suppressed sadness, their voice cracking. They tried to stay calm as memories of their college days came crushing in all at once, fogging their whole mind. Suddenly, they felt dizzy as they let go of the confused teenager’s arm, and sat down on the bed.

It was now or never. Every time they had this conversation, it would end with the hero staying silent the end, not wanting to bring up any reminders of the villain. They could not tell the younger one, that their best friend was none other than the most wanted criminal in the entire city. It would be too much, for both of them. Every time the assignment of finding the villain was assigned to him, they would always decline it. They couldn’t afford to meet the villain let alone, catch them. It would break them, unwillingly.

Yet, they couldn’t bury it all down again. Not when the kid was getting nothing but smarter every day, wiser. Mature. It felt wrong to hide their history any longer than they had been. So, they took a deep breath and let it all out. They told the fourteen-year-old everything that he had been wanting to, everything they didn’t tell anyone else, not even their ex-partner. Perhaps, that’s why when their partner felt that they weren't the one the hero was looking for, they decided to set them both free.

The teenager listened intently, asking their parent questions here and there. Frowning at various times, and laughing at others. It was a roller coaster of emotions, if you asked them.

“So…you still love them then?” They questioned, eyes brows raised.

The hero glanced away, wiping away the tears that unknowingly left out of their eyes, “I wish I could say no, but yes. Yes, I do love-," Before the hero could finish his sentence, there was a big thud from the kitchen. The teenager glanced at their dad, their eyes filled with surprise.

They both quickly but quietly made their way to the kitchen, the hero in the front, while their child trailed behind.

When they peeked out behind the wall of the kitchen, the hero's heart stopped. The villain stood there, appearing smug.

The villain scanned the gadgets that were set in front of him, tucked away in glass-paneled shelves on the wall. If you knew about how they worked, you'd know that they could make a person stronger than they are by 10 times. But if you didn't, well, good luck. They could possibly explode you if you didn't use them wisely. The villain sighed, waving his hand dismissively. He needed something better than these toys.

The last time he fought with the hero, the hero had commented that 'he should just fight with some teenagers and not waste his time', he had basically told the villain that he was too strong to be fighting with him. The villain took that very personally, and here he was. He wanted to pin the hero down there and then, if it weren't for the hero's blunt remark making him retreat away. He was still embarrassed about the whole situation. How dare the hero call him 'weak'?! He scoffed quietly, shuffling his feet to his desk.

If he wanted to take down the hero, he needed something that would amplify his powers by more than 10 times. Just as he was thinking what he could do, his sidekick appeared in the doorway, grinning.

"Hey, villain." The sidekick said, coming forward and taking the seat opposite to the villain, seemingly bouncier than usual, the villain noted. "Guess what our fellow scientist is up to? Actually, don't. He's making this new tube-like machine that amplifies your power by 100 times. A hundred times, that is totally insane. Crazy." The villain's eyes widened, that was exactly what he needed. He leaned in, curious.

"That's...that's really awesome." He tried to keep the excitement out of his voice, as he continued, "Did they tell you when it's going to be ready?"

"Oh yeah, he was planning on testing it today. I wanted to volunteer but the supervillain wants me to go a mission. So I can't, how about you?" The sidekick asked, their eyes filled with unhidden eagerness. The villain smirked lightly.

"I might as well. Volunteer, I mean." The villain internally started thinking about how the hero would react if the machine really did work, and he got stronger! The hero was surely going to be surprised, hell, even scared for his life, if it comes to it. He couldn't wait to meet the other, anticipation running wild in his veins as he stood up suddenly. The sidekick glanced up at him. "I should go pay him a visit, it's been a while."

The sidekick nodded, his head bobbing up and down.

When the villain was out of the room, he jumped and fisted a punch in the air. Oh, the hero was going to love it. Or hate it, for that matter.

Prompt #25

"Oh, so you're the infamous hero everyone is drooling over lately?" The villain wondered as they let their eyes roam over the hero's figure.

"Yeah. Why, you jealous?" The hero asked them, confident. A proud glint pondering in their dusty brown eyes. Their feet moved steadily but surely on their own to the other one.

"Jealous? Of you? Oh, spare me." The villain scoffed. Their face told otherwise, the hero thought.

The villain stayed planted where they were, while the hero nothing but neared them. Cornered them. They gulped.

"You know, you're not so bad yourself. I'd take you." The hero's voice dropped to a low soothing sound, that the villain's knees almost gave out. Almost.

The villain raised a brow, trying to appear unbothered. "In...a fight, right?" They said, unsure. They were just buying time so they could run, they told himself. It was definitely not because they were curious.

"No. Think deeper." The hero replied, short and curt. A devious smile made its way onto their lips. They let the villain figure out what exactly they meant.

The villain realized soon, the implication of what the hero meant and their eyes widened.

The hero attacked them next. Right there and then.

Snippet #2

"I'd like to believe you, but I don't know if I can." The hero uttered, the villain stood with their back facing them. They let their eyes stroll over the villain's shadowed body. The sun beamed on the villain, making them glow.

"It's okay. You don't have to. No one does. No one did." The villain replied. And, even though the hero couldn't see their face, they knew it was heartbroken. The villain was heartbroken, they could feel it. They longed to just hold them, but they can't.

The hero was restrained by the bindings of their mission. The mission? Manipulate the villain. Find all their weaknesses to use against them. Cruel. That's what they felt when they first entered the villain's huge mansion. It was evening. The sun was bidding its final goodbye, with the sharp sunrays.

The hero took a deep breath to steady their pounding heart. The villain turned around abruptly and shifted their feet towards them. They came so close, the hero thought they would kiss them. But what came was the gentle touch of the villain's fingers on their cheek. A soft graze of the other's hand, and they sighed.

The hero leaned to the touch, involuntarily. They couldn't stop themself for wanting more of it. "You know, I've always believed you. Believed in your strength to fight me, and win. It's almost a defeat on my part to admit it." The villain murmured, their hands moving down to the hero's jaw. The hero let it.

"You don't need to. Don't have to. I've lost more than won. With you, anyways." The hero muttered back, their voice so low. So mellow. They wished that the both of them would stay like this. Never pull apart, but of course, that wasn't going to happen.

"You've won me." The villain whispered. The distance between them allowed even the slightest noise to be heard, the villain didn't need to be loud. The hero shuddered, their heartbeat picked up again. They looked the villain in the eye, and found them staring right back.

The villain moved closer, hesitant. The hero closed the gap between them and brought their lips together. They cursed internally to the mission, the damned government, his duties, and his job. However, most of all, they cursed himself for losing control. But who were they to deny love? No one. Not anymore.

Prompt #71

By @writingpromptsworld

When the hero finishes their training for the day, and comes home, they do not expect to see the villain sitting in the middle of their room, with a presumably champagne glass in their hand.

However, what was more strange was the fact that the villain had decorated the whole place for the hero’s happy birthday. But the decorations weren’t normal like balloons, banners, and…. Other decorations.

There were knives, and other weapons hanging around the room vaguely, yet somehow fashionably. There was a cake in the middle with the hero’s name, painted red, their name in a black font. And the villain sat, grinning.

The hero stood still for a second, taking it all in slowly. If it was anyone in the hero’s space, they would have been shocked. Horrified, perhaps. But the hero, the hero barely blinked an eye at it. They sighed. “Is this the birthday party I get for working hard all day?” They asked, setting down their backpack.

The villain chuckled. “If that was your way of saying ‘thank you’, I regret to inform you it's not the best way.” The hero perked an eyebrow, before sitting down opposite the villain.

“And why would I be thanking you for this?” The hero asked, motioning around the room in a ‘what the heck is this?’ tone.

The villain pouted, their full lips crunching into a perfect circle. “Now that’s not very nice. I worked very hard to find all of your hidden guns, and even the knives! Gosh the knives! Why do you not have a knife holder?” They mused, their brows frowning in concentration as if this was a serious thing they took great interest in.

The hero pursued their lips. They hadn’t eaten much all day, and the cake(however bloody it was designed to look) appeared as delicious as water in a dessert. Their stomach growled, and they glanced at the villain. The villain smiled sweetly.

“Let’s cut the cake! Happy birthday, my hero.” The ‘my’ was really unnecessary, the hero thought but let it go anyway.

They leaned forward and blew off the candles. The candles were all black. “Thank you.” They mumbled, feeling uneasy yet a sick kind of affection towards the villain for remembering their birthday and even throwing a party. No one had done it, not even their closest so-called colleagues.

They put on a smile. Not forced, but genuine. The villain smiled just as genuinely back. The hero devoured the cake, it was a chocolate cake, their favorite. And while eating, the villain spoke up. “Just because I did all this doesn’t mean I’m going soft on you during our fights, just so you know.” They licked their lips, a flirtatious grin spreading across their cream kissed lips.

The hero rolled their eyes with a smile. “Yeah, yeah. You’re a big baddie, who doesn’t have a heart and has a stone cold persona. Blah blah blah.”

The villain laughed, gazing at them with love filled eyes. The hero couldn’t ask for more for their birthday.

The impact of reblogging...

Just in case you’re new, or don’t really understand how this entire site functions (and it’s completely different from other social media apps, at least for now*), or if you wanted an illustration of why it’s so important to reblog the posts you enjoy and the hard work of creators you want to support, here’s a visualisation of the impact and reach of reblogging, using my biggest post (part one of my writing masterlist).

Creators are losing the will to post and share in droves because engagement is becoming next to non-existent, and if you don’t reblog the things you enjoy for free, creators wonder why they even bother, and soon they’ll just… stop.

(Look at that reblog to like ratio too… oof)

image

My little blog is at the centre of that dense circle, and every point in the image represents a reblog.

Of the people who reblogged the original post, most of them did so directly from me, but you can see scattered groups of reblogs which came from people who reblogged it from those who did so from me. And so on and so on, out into the ecosystem.

If you came across my masterlist in the wild, and didn’t or don’t follow me, you only saw it because someone reblogged it.

Most of the things you see on your dash are only there because someone you follow reblogged it.

It’s how this whole ecosystem works, and you’re smothering and killing it if you don’t reblog the ‘content’ you ‘consume’ (I dislike using those terms, but it is what it is).

To clarify, no one is saying you should feel obliged to reblog everything you come across, or that everything an artist or creator puts out there ‘deserves’ to be reblogged, but for pity’s sake, reblog the things you do actively enjoy.

Leaving a like or a comment on the post is like giving a compliment directly to the creator, and it’s wonderful, but it doesn’t show that post to anyone else or boost its presence on the platform. It can also give the impression you didn’t like it ‘enough’ or it wasn’t ‘good enough’ to bother putting on your blog or reblogging. How you really show your appreciation for something you genuinely enjoyed is by reblogging. (Even better if you screech away in the tags about why you liked it, but that’s an optional extra!) It’s like giving a meaningful and impactful tip, except it’s completely free, and it only costs you the time it takes to click or tap.

I hope that clears things up, and is a useful illustration of the impact you’ve had on creators’ pages by reblogging their work, so a huge thank you to those who represent points on that chart, and those of other creators on here! It’s because of people like you that work of people like me gets seen and enjoyed by more people!!

*(I know Tumblr is trying to change things so that you see other things now, instead of only the people you follow, but you can and should turn that feature off).

Prompt #16

The hero smiled softly, while walking to the sleeping body on his couch. His hands held a soft blanket, imprinted with little lions and tigers. He draped it over the villain, gently. The villain instinctively turned towards him in his sleep, cuddling up in the comfort.

The hero gave a quick kiss to the villain’s forehead, and went to make cookies for when the villain wakes up.

Prompt #31

"Why?! Just why did you kill her?!" The hero screamed, punching the villain's face repeatedly. His eyes filled with angry tears, that let themselves out steadily. He stood up, dragged the villain by the collar, and threw him across the room. The villain groaned and laughed.

"I tried and tried...to be happy for you. Until I couldn't. I couldn't see it see anymore, because it hurt. It hurt to see how happy you were when you were with her, not me. It hurt to know that she is the one you love, not me. I didn't know what to do. I didn't want to know. If I could just, remove her from your life." The villain said, willing himself to sit up with the wall's support. He gulped.

The villain felt pain all over his body. Not quite from the punches or the kicks. But, from the way the hero's eyes widened, from the way the hero's face scrunched into a frown and then, a scowl.

He came forward to where the villain was still struggling and knelt down. "Loving me doesn't give you any right to kill her. And, if you did truly love me...you wouldn't have done this. No." The hero murmured, shaking his head. Disbelief on his face, apparent. It was like the world stopped around them. The hero still looking at him with hurt, wrath, and loathe.

The villain's breath choked. He couldn't breathe. He thought everything would make itself right, by the time he was finished with hiding the woman's body. But, somehow, the hero had found her. Had dug her out from the villain's hideout, while he could do nothing but watch with his hands and legs tied to a chair.

The hero suddenly let out a chuckle, "This calls for revenge, doesn't it? Since you killed my ex, I get to kill you. And, then we're even." The villain stared in a daze, unmoving. What came next, was a loaded gun from the hero's back pocket.

Prompt #55

“Tch, stop being a coward and fight me, villain!” The hero grunted, their hands bound by ropes behind their back. Their legs also covered with ropes that they struggled to get out of.

“Hmmmm.” The villain started, standing up and walking slowly to where the hero was splayed on the ground. “You shouldn’t speak like that to a person who has full control over your life right now. They could take it any time they wished.”

The hero scoffed, a dirty noise in the air. And, looked up with a glare. “What you gonna do? Kill me with your silly little knife or strangle me to death? Pathetic.”

The villain frowned, and then chuckled. Their expression settling back to a calm one. They bent down to hero’s level. “Well, well, well. Aren’t you being a brat? Do I need to teach you how to talk to me?”

The hero half snorted and half laughed. “Oh, you’re going to teach me manners? The great scary villain? Gods have blessed me.”

The villain sighed. “Hero, the reason you’re here-no, we are here is because of you. You had a plan to kill me. But upon entering my secret hide-out, you find yourself instantly boomed into a trap. How very sad.”

The hero stared at him, speechless, because apparently that was true. They did indeed fall into a trap like a fucking kid who didn't know any better. They should've known about it. Predicted it. But, the bubbling excitement. The thrillness of it all had made their brain go frenzy. Never thinking about the possible obstacles of it all. They stayed silent.

The villain smiled, a mischievous smile. "With that said, I wouldn't mind teaching you some manners. If you don't mind, of course." The hero blushed at the implications, immediately going red in the face.

It was going to be long before they actually got out of that place.

Prompt #79

It was almost three a.m. when the hero’s phone rang. They groaned loudly before reaching across the night table, and fetching it. They had no idea who could be calling right now, and honestly, they couldn’t give a shit. Because, they had come home around two in the morning and went straight to bed, exhausted and bone-tired.

They brought the phone to their ears anyway, without checking the caller ID. “Hello?”

“I miss you.” Were the words spoken in an almost a slur of a tone. The hero’s mind seemed to not process the words for a moment.

“What?” They asked.

“I miss you.” The person repeated a little more loudly. And the hero made out who it was. The villain.

“I—what?”

The villain whined, and a slump could be heard, followed by a grumble from them. “I miss you, hero.” They draw out, and from their voice, the hero could make out that the villain was drunk.

The hero pressed their lips. “Do you know what time it is? Where are you? Are you drunk?” They questioned, sitting up.

“I’m home…I think.” The villain slurred, and then sighed. “Are you home?” They asked dumbly.

The hero frowned. “Of course I’m home.”

“Can you come to me? I wanna see you.” They mumbled, and even though the hero couldn’t see them, they could imagine the villain was pouting.

The hero sighed. “Stay where you are. I’m coming.”

“Okay...can you stay on the phone?” The villain asked.

The hero got out of their bed, “No. I’ll be driving. But I’ll be there in no time.”

The villain grumbled something under their breath about hero being all goody two shoes and never breaking the laws before hanging up.

When the hero got there, the villain was sleeping peacefully, and they got in bed with them, the villain instantly cuddling up to them.
