I love Phandom and phanfiction because y’all put greater emphasis on the ghostliness than the original show did.
I love when Batman and Spider-man are treated as the main identities, and Bruce and Peter are the alter egos. So likewise, I want Phantom to be the main identity and Danny to be the alter ego.
The TV series (as much as I love it) mostly focuses on Danny, and being Phantom gets in the way of real life. Like oops, Danny can’t do this normal teen thing because he has to fight ghosts. Oh no. And my favorite episodes are ones that focus more on his ghostliness, like Public Enemies. But in so many fics, being Danny gets in the way of ghost activities, or they highlight how much he has to suppress ghostliness while in human form. I frikkin LOVE it.
Furthermore, apparently in Butch’s imagination ghosts aren’t actually dead people, but basically just a kind of monster. Fanon is like no, he’s half dead. Let’s focus on how dead he is and his struggle with being both dead and alive. I LOVE it. That’s the angst I want. That’s the whump fodder I want.
Tldr I love the Danny Phantom series but fanon gives us a ghost-focused, half-dead angsty hero whose humanity gets in the way of his ghost life, and I love it.
I can’t stop thinking about this thing I saw so I’m doing a similar thing where Danny tells people to do stuff and I hey listen for whatever reason.
Grunt or something: “Hey! I’m kidnapping you!”
Danny: “No you’re not, but I am kinda hungry, so will you run down to the bodega on the corner and get me something?”
Grunt, confused but feels inclined to listen: “Oh, you mean Steve’s Spot, what do you want?”
Danny: “Do you think you can get a number seven, ask them to add extra sauce too”
Grunt, already heading down the street: “no problem!”
