re2 ! leon kennedy x male reader [he / him]
sypnosis: ever since leon joined the rpd, he continues to catch his colleague, [name] staring at him. however, leon isn't sure why but he's determined to find out [name]'s reasoning. (meant to be viewed as romantic)
the lowercase is intentional !
- no outbreak au, just normal rookie leon
it hadn't been that long since leon joined the rpd. he had wanted the job for ages, and he finally got it. he couldn't of been happier once he heard the news that he got accepted, or when it was his first day on the job.
however, whenever leon was at the station doing less skilled jobs or paperwork he couldn't help but notice someone staring. not once, not twice, but multiple times. he didn't understand why this person kept staring at him or looking his way all the time. did he do something wrong? did he say something wrong? leon didn't understand. all he tried to do was be friendly towards everyone, but it seemed that someone probably didn't like that.
soon enough, leon found out that the person always staring at him was [name]. he wasn't that much older than leon, they were around a similar age. and he was fairly new to the rpd too - just like leon.
but still, leon didn't understand why [name] kept staring. maybe [name] wanted to be friends? maybe [name] disliked leon and his staring was actually just glaring? maybe leon had something on his face all the time without realising? whatever it was, leon couldn't figure it out for the life of him.
leon started to grow uneasy, and quite tired of [name]'s unsolicited staring. the rookie finally had enough. he was going to put his foot down and confront [name] about it once and for all.
however, when he did end up confronting [name], the response leon received was truly unexpected.
"[name].." leon starts as he finally approached [name] during their lunch break. "can i talk to you?" the male asked, biting on the inside of his cheek after speaking as he waited for a response from [name].
the other male looked up at leon and nodded. he was a little confused, unsure what he had done wrong to make leon come over and talk to him. hopefully it wasn't something bad, but by the tone of leon's voice it was definitely something that had been upsetting and bothering the man for a while. [name] was nervous. he hadn't felt this uneasy in a while.
leon takes in a deep breath, trying to prepare himself for what he was going to say and how [name] was going to reply. he reassured himself mentally before speaking to his colleague again.
"do you.. do you hate me or something?" leon asked, a frown on his face as he looked at [name]. "i always catch you staring at me- glaring even. did i do something wrong? i'm sorry if i did something wrong i didn't mean to." leon continued, the words spilling out of his mouth as fast as rain fell out of the sky during a storm.
[name]'s eyes widened for a number of reasons. the first reason being that he didn't expect leon to want to talk about his staring, and the second reason being that leon thought his staring was a bad thing. a thing grown from hatred and malice.
truth be told, [name] didn't glare or stare at leon out of hate. he was just curious about him, and found the new cop quite cute too. he hoped that his staring and stolen glances from afar would help him get to know leon better. [name] also never would've guessed that leon actually knew that he was staring. god was [name] embarrassed now.
[name] opened his mouth to speak, but his mouth shut closed upon opening. he tried to talk, to say the words that were filling his mind now but he just couldn't. he felt too embarrassed and caught off guard to know how to respond properly. today officially marked the end of [name]'s short life.
"erm.. no.." [name] managed to get out, shaking his head as he finished his short sentence. "i don't hate you- seriously!" [name] said, hoping that his weak defense would convince leon someone. it didn't seem like it was working though.
leon narrowed his eyes at [name]. now he was the one glaring, not [name]. he wasn't buying the other cop's excuse, it wasn't even backed up yet. all [name] did was say that he didn't hate leon. sure, it did make leon feel a little relieved but he needed a bit more to go off from.
[name] sighed, realising that his words weren't going to get through to leon just yet. he'd need to say something more. he was going to actually have to confess the truth. this was definitely the end of [name].
"gods.. how do i explain this.." [name] mumbled to himself as he threw his head down, heat rising in his face as he felt so embarrassed. he definitely didn't want to explain this to leon. leon was going to hate him instead of him hating leon.
"i'm just.. really curious about you. i thought that maybe staring at you would somehow tell me something about you- that maybe i'd have the courage to talk to you or something." [name] rambled, meeting leon's blue eyes briefly as he spoke. he really hoped that leon wasn't going to find him any weird for confessing this. "i mean, it is hard to find the courage in yourself to talk to a cute guy, such as yourself." [name] slips out without realising.
leon's brows furrowed as he listened to what [name] was rambling on about. soon his stern expression was switched to one of shock. a red coloured his cheeks and his eyes softened as he now started at [name]. he couldn't believe what he had just heard. it was definitely not what he was expecting.
[name] tapped his fingers on his desk, waiting nervously for a reply from the rookie. he didn't want leon to think of him as a freak or something, that would be far from what [name] was trying to achieve from the beginning.
"oh.. i certainly wasn't expecting that." leon responded, scratching the back of his neck. he was flustered by [name]'s confession, and everything from the look on his face to his body language showed proof of that.
"so.. you think i'm cute? is that what i'm hearing?" leon asks, a smile on his lips as he looks at [name]. it was as if it was the only thing that he picked up from the whole rant [name] went on. but, of course, now it was [name]'s turn to be flustered.
[name] felt his whole body go stiff and hot at leon's response. all he could do was nod his head at the man before dropping it so his smile wouldn't show. he couldn't believe that leon was playing his game now.
"if you think i'm cute.. do you want to get coffee sometime?" leon asked, a small chuckle escaping his lips. [name] couldn't resist leon at all this point forward. was it because he embarrassed himself infront of leon? or was it just leon's simple charm? probably both.
"or tea- or something else of course!" leon continued, covering his mouth as he realised what he said. [name] was immediately pulled out of his thoughts as he heard leon speak. "i mean.. if you don't like coffee we can get something else of course!" leon carried on and on and on.
[name] looked at leon and he just took the rookie's hand in his own. he stared into leon's eyes and smiled.
"we can go get anything after this shift.. as long as it's not just you getting more stares from me.." [name] joked, shaking his head after. "although, i think after this date of ours, i think i'm going to be staring at you forever.." [name] mumbled, pressing a kiss to leon's hand.
oh how leon was completely estatic that he figured out the reason behind [name]'s stolen glances...

re4 ! leon kennedy x gn reader [they / them]
sypnosis: leon finds a box tucked away in his closet filled with polaroids of him and his first partner, [name]. (meant to be viewed as romantic / ex-lovers)
the lowercase is intentional !
- warnings: character death, zombies & other, typical resident evil stuff.
packing up for spain, leon happened to find a box in his closet. it was old, pushed away to the corner and pretty dusty. leon couldn't even guess what was inside of there. it just seemed so.. old and out of place.
curious, leon pulled the box out of the closet and he decided to open it. surely, nothing bad could be inside it. he's seen zombies and infected, and there was no way one of those things could fit in such a small box.
leon wiped off the top of the box to get some of the dust off of it. "memories of 1996-1998" leon murmured as he read what was written on the box in sharpie.
leon was confused, to say the least. he never remembered having such a box. but then again that was probably because it was tucked away, never to be seen again after he went away for government training.
of course, leon was curious. he thought that the box could do no harm, after all it did say it was just about memories. perhaps it was just random trinkets from those 6, 8 years ago. surely it was no harm.
the man cautiously opened the box, putting the lid of it to the side. immediately, he saw some polaroids and even a polaroid camera. there also seemed to be some sort of dog plush tucked away in the corner of the box.
leon couldn't remember any of the contents of the box. maybe it was due to all the trauma he faced in racoon city that made him forget? or was it the intense training he recieved that made him forget silly things like those inside the box?
soon enough, the contents of the box were emptied and littered across leon's bedroom floor. there were piles of polaroids now laying there, each telling a different story. leon had to take a closer look. he had to find out why this box was in his possession in the first place.
leon's eyes trace over each photo. they seemed to be either of himself, another person or himself and this mysterious person. some of the photos had captions and writings at the bottom, yet some others didn't.
leon's hand lingers over one specific photo. with a little bit of hesitation, he picks it up and scans its contents. he hopes to get some sort of recognition about what's going on inside the polaroid.
"first date. 17/09/1996." is what the caption on the photo reads. there's no significance to leon about the date yet, but there's some sort of familiarity about it lingering in the back of his mind.
two people are smiling in the photo, standing infront of what seemed like a movie theatre. leon was holding some popcorn in his hands, whilst the other person was holding some drinks. the polaroid was blurry, but there was a blush on leon's cheeks at the time the photo was taken.
leon smiled at himself. the photo was quite heartwarming and it helped him take his mind off the mission he was going to face soon.
yet, leon still couldn't remember the person in these photos. he hoped looking at a few more would jog his memory.
leon's fingers grazed over another photo. it happened to be photo taken from leon's birthday in 1997. the anxiety leon felt was rising, but he didn't know why. he still couldn't recognise the other person in the photo, but his stomach still churned as he looked at them.
leon is sat at a table in the picture. it's his 20th birthday and there's a cake infront of him with a candle reading his age. the person was leaning over to leon, giving the birthday boy a kiss on the cheek.
a sigh escaped from leon's lips as he smiled at the picture. he shook his head as he thought about the times before everything. the times before umbrella corp, the times before the zombies and the t-virus and the times before he became a cop.
leon still couldn't remember who his other person was. they were becoming more and more familiar but he couldn't put a name on them.
it was clear they were an important part of leon's life. or, well, leon's past life. when he was somewhat happier than he is now.
the way leon smiled in the photos, blushed, shared kisses or laughs with the other person.. leon started to miss it. he definitely had a blast those 6, 8 years ago, when his mind was still innocent and not tainted by the horrors that he saw.
leon decided to pick up another polaroid. this time, it was one just of the person. it happened to be that leon took this one of the person.
they were smiling at the camera, posing slightly and overall having a good time. leon couldn't help but smile back, imagining that he was also in the picture with them.
then, leon read the caption. it wasn't anything much, but it was a short and sweet caption.
"i love you, [name]." leon read from the polaroid. "17/09/1997". it seemed to be that the photo was from leon and [name]'s 1st year anniversary.
[name].. the name rung a bell in leon's mind. well, of course it did. it had to. the two dated for 2 years and leon is now pretty certain that [name] was his first partner.
but suddenly.. leon's face drops. he finally realises who [name] is, or really, what happened to them. he knew who [name] was anyway, but it seemed as if his mind was blocking off everything that happened to them because of the trauma leon had faced. but he remembered.
leon remembered the screams of agony, the pain, the copius amounts of blood he saw pouring out from them.
leon killed [name].
it wasn't his choice, really. it was more of a last wish from [name]. their last words.
"kill me, leon. save me from this torture. i don't want to turn you too." were the sobs that fell from [name]'s mouth as they pleaded for leon to shoot them.
how did leon forget about such a pivotal moment in his life? he had forgotten about his first love, his best friend, his everything.
"oh god.." leon mumbled to himself as he remembered everything. he scowered to clean everything up.
he realised why he didn't know this box existed in the first place. his mind purposely blocked everything out so it could save him from the memories and the pain.
[name] was infected, and leon was the only one around. leon had to shoot them to save himself, and he did.
leon knows he did the right thing, but it still hurts. he carries guilt and weight that was buried until now, having resurfaced due to some polaroids.
frantically, leon put all the photos back into the box before he put the box back into his closet. he wiped his face, not realising that a few tears had fallen during his trip down memory lane.
leon sighs and he closes his closet, turning away from it. he continues to put everything into his suitcase, ready to go to spain.
he hopes nothing bad will happen, but his hopes are too high. there was no way that rescuing the president's daughter in an area of spain where people have been going missing will go well...
at least leon has the memories of [name], even if he was trying to forget them and had successfully done so for years. but now he could think of the photos, and try not to think of the zombies and the guilt he had.
leon sighed, yet again. he got up and left his home. it was time for a new mission...
