the amount of research that goes into fanfic.... i'm drowning over here. so for context I'm a baby marvel fan (*cough* spidey obsessed transgender *cough*) who recently regressed back into their supercorp phase and am writing for them. so now i'm a fetus dc fan. and i was not expecting gathering background knowledge to be This Hard. even trying to figure out where my characters are on a map. i thought metropolis was new york and gotham was chicago. and then my friend informs me that they thought gotham was new york. and then I found out neither were new york, but in fact somewhere in jersey (or i think metropolis is deleware?) so. national city as I remember it (as someone whose experience was limited to supergirl s1 and s2) was los angeles. but some people were saying san diego. and my favorite author recently put it in dc (the city). which i loved btw. i have decided that national city is los angeles for my peace of mind (you can't introduce cat grant over stock video of the 405 and tell me kara lives somewhere else) (shut up orange county; no one asked).
now i just have to figure out the complexities of the bat family....
what better way to spend new year's eve eve than by doing a photoshoot with your girlfriend in front of the tree?
ok so i'm regressing (back in the supergirl fandom). happy december folks. and i would just like to say -- if you still believe the super friends were the Good Guys™, then you are wearing BLINDERS. like ok, the whole point of the show is that there are no such thing as Good Guys and Bad Guys. But also, even if there were, Ms. Billionare Weapons Manufacturer and Alien ICE are not anywhere near the nice list. I'm sorry, you're telling me that that the secret government black ops group that held aliens in SOLITARY GLASS CAGES with no trial or charges and no way to defend themselves was the good guy? idgaf about kryptonite, that's despicable. not to mention contracting kara's friends off the street to hack the fuck out of everyone ever? no warrants, no judges, no oversight. and then consistently involving l corp? despite the fact that they keep killing people left right and center? yall what are you ON what really gets me is lena's "kara you would be playing god" line in s6. guys. guys. i hate to break it to you. but what would you call what you have been doing for the last 6 years? the harun-el experiments? the universe fuckery (less kara's fault)? medusa at the end of s2? don't get me started on that, what the fuck. these people are walking human rights violations i call it comfort copaganda for a reason, ok? this shit is wildly unethical and a little horrifying. i'm not saying that these characters are unlovable -- you can pry supercorp out of my cold, dead hands. but i am saying that the criticisms -- of lena, of the deo, of alex -- you see in supergirl fandom (fics, textposts, fanart, etc) are a good thing. and quite frankly, more interesting than the DEO Knight In Shining Armor approach. ty to the authors and bloggers and artists who challenge that kind of status quo we have in this fandom. you're my favorites.
