as for the question, dearest asker:
I think it was the original merg playthroughs that drew me to him, (and made me find out about his existence) and I started to grow more and more attached over time. I don't know when it happened, but he's just irreplaceable to me now.
I'd say I usually grow a liking to characters like that. Find out about them, compare them to others, realise I like them the most, get pissed because there's little-to-no content of them (they're usually the most unknown damn characters, example being rico from aot. (yes she's my favourite aot character.))
As for what makes lb a character I enjoy? I'd say it's a mix of the more grounded approach of the au, and gaster. I'm quite a big fan of gaster, he's my #2 UT character, competing with sans for #1. plus the design of lb is the best I've ever seen, rivaling fatal and loverofpiggies designs in general. it's so damn basic yet so good. I've always liked more "wild" interpretations of things, as in like- when a character just goes sicko mode. not being restrained by plot or other characters, just goes crazy. though I may just be latching onto something here since I dont quite know myself.
one thing I DO know is how much I love the static aspect. I've been waiting to talk about this all ask. the static aspect of lb hooks me in EASILY. I don't know why but it's so damn good to look at.
not to mention the twitching. lb really gives off this vibe of "we're fucked" no matter who he's up against. phase 3's opening remains my favourite UT-related sequence ever. maybe even outside of UT, actually.
lb excels even more than dust in just pure POTENTIAL for design. you can have a more symbiotic approach, a more retained and orderly approach, or you can have a puppeteer-type dynamic. there's also it just being batshit insane, which I enjoy with a mix of symbiotic and puppeteer.
off-topic slightly, but my favourite representation of lb is a crackhead disposition, with puppeteer strings. yet it's symbiotic in nature, sans and gaster both agreeing on this.
PS: thx for the comment on my artstyle. I love sketchy artstyles a SHIT ton yet it feels like I js chicken scratch with mine. so the very fact it helps my art, especially with my fav character ever, is definitely a motivator.

why? because it embodies lb. allow me to explain
while I may love the static and concept of phase 3, that's not exactly "last breath", right? more so "im tweaking out and you're about to fucking die because of it"
tsc has the best music, but it's close between aee. I just like it more, though. it's subjective
anyhow, sc represents that sans is on his last legs to beat you. not just him powering up- its him literally dying as he serves out an asswooping that made merg cry. and yet he's determined to do it. not some bullshit dt injection or newfound hope, he's straight up just pissed. and that's why its so fascinating, because it still feels plausible. it's grounded, literally just sans surviving then finally going "fuck it we ball" and dunking your ass harder than papyrus' head

Whelp, Mud Wing won the poll, so now I give you guys my Mud Wings up for debate on who of which I draw.
I have Seven Mud Wings oc's to choose from on this poll, as that's all I the Mud's I own. But first, how about I show who is on the poll. Might as well share a snip bit of info on them too.
First up, Mintchocolate the Mud Wing. He is a somewhat anxiety filled dragon, and is always looking around his surroundings as he is scared of the unknown and unpredictable. He is very cautious at what he does and doesn't like going out too much, he likes hanging out with his friends and prefers to be around other dragons at all times as he hates being alone.
Fun fact, Mint Chocolate is an actual type of Mint Vine that grows in more damp shadowy areas, you can actually grow Mint chocolate leaves, I grow some of my own actually.
Second up, Mink the Mud Wing, she is a very well trained medicine maker and grower. She knows what to mix and put together for specific injuries. She is cautious at what she does, but is a true sweetheart by nature, she is calm and well collected. She is slightly shy when doing big hangouts with her friends and family, but always seems to have a good time.
Third up is Log, the Mud Wing, she is a fashion stylist model and is always trying to look her best, she only always uses the best mud for her soaking times. She can get pretty nasty, pretty quickly, she does have good intentions but can easily get distracted by her looks.
Forth up is Moss, the Mud Wing. She is a very kind, and patient soul, she is very coy when it comes down to doing things outside her comfort zone. She usually keeps to herself and does things on her own time.
Fith, Smudge the Mud Wing. He is a complete whimp when doing anything at all, he trys his best but always seems to mess up in the long run. He is a very pessimistic guy and is always worried about anything and everything.
Sixth, Sunstone the Mud Wing. He is a peaceful, joyful and very active one, he loves to hangout in the sun light and play. He is very optimistic and hopeful dragon by nature.
Seventh and last of all, Queen Muskrat of the Mud Wings. She is a very patient and stern soul, she understands her position as Queen. She is well taught and very sturdy when dealing with things. She can be difficult to work with tho as it's hard to convince her if she believes in a different idea or plan.

Ahhh no worries!! I love seeing people in my inbox about my stuff it means a lot ty ty ^_^ As for my borrowers au, I really do wanna get back into writing and drawing stuff for it but I have just gotten super busy and lost interest, but I am so shocked by how well it was received and hearing that people actually want more of it is so so cool and makes me so unbelievably happy. so maybe once things have calmed down for me I can get back into it! Time will tell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yes, yes he would.
Luz puts on some movie thinking it’s a horror but is actually a gore fest and she’s lowkey horrified. The others seen stuff on the boiling isles but even they have their own limits. I think he’d find practical effects gore scrumptious looking the same way we find ghibli food tasty looking, it’s all too perfect looking. He’s of course very much ashamed of it

For your ghoul AU, besides the whole flesh consumption and more animalistic traits from smell and hearing does anythin per se useful come from Hunter's new biology?
He has some standard grimwalker headcanon stuff like immunity to heat and lungs turning into stone when sleeping. He’s a bit stronger and faster than the average witch and can see in the dark quite well. Reflective cat eyes! He produces more adrenaline which means he’s on fight or flight more often and his body is good at preserving energy.
Downside of that means he’s sleepy more often since he doesn’t have a proper diet so he often takes quick naps on the job when he can and has the heartbeat of a humming bird. He’s a bit more prone to passing out. When he’s in the human realm, he starts napping throughout the day.
Tbh a lot of stuff you can also chalk to being a child soldier like quick reflexes, flexibility(bro can fold like a lawn chair), agility, mithridatism and great balance.
When he starts eating properly post canon, he gets the zoomies due to more energy, grows a new set of stronger fangs and stronger nails.
Other than that’s he’s close to a normal witch, a part of me wants to add more stuff but I want it to be more believable since he is supposed to be the more ideal clone in terms of looks.
Past failed grimwalkers during early testing had stuff like claws, scales, tails, muzzle like faces, ect (closer to how grimwalkers are depicted in myths in this AU) before Belos was able to perfect the recipe. Hunter is the first grimwalker in a very long time that had something ‘go wrong’ in his creation because he was made too young which meant he went through a natural puberty/development unlike the other grimwalkers who were already fully grown.
I just want to say that absolutely adore your ghoul au for hunter and it's part of my hyperfixation for him now! Also I saw you have an ao3 account. Do you plan on writing anything related to that? If not, do you mind if others write about it and credit you?
Ah thank you! Honestly, I don’t have much motivation for writing currently. I would like to write something for the Ghoul au but doubt I could keep up. Maybe a one shot in the future.

Well I’m definitely do some art of it now! Not the whole thing but some stand out parts because wow. The idea of Hunter giving out these morbid, awkward speeches is wonderful, much less a freaking eulogy for Belos!

In terms of the belos saying "I love you" I feel like he said it once and exactly once, and it was the day he was sworn in as the guard but he didn't mean it to Hunter, he meant it to the mask, this was done so that Hunter would only want to be the guard

Belos saying “I love you” but only to the symbol and Hunter mistaking it for him. How happy Hunter would be at the words while Belos doesn’t even acknowledge it.
To me, I never saw Belos saying “ I love you.” He only ever loved the idea of the Golden Guard or the perfect replacement but never actually loved it in execution if you get what I mean. He seems more like the type to say “The Titan blessed me with a nephew.” or “appreciate your presence” or some flowery crap like that.
In the drawing it was Hunter grabbing onto Belos and saying “I love you” because the poor child is desperate and exhausted while Belos stands there surprised and doesn’t hug him back.
Though now I’m imagining a BoJack Horseman ICU moment where Hunter is talking to his friends and realizes Belos never said “I love you” to him but to the mask.
Imagine an AU where Belos is imprisoned after Titan Luz defeats him rather than killed.
Then one day Hunter comes to visit him in his prison and he asks if Belos ever thought he could have been happy with him.
And (and I know this would be OOC for him) Belos can't bring himself to answer. He would gladly say no just to make Hunter feel bad, or maybe even say yes to manipulate him, but he actually finds himself lost for words.
Hmmm, this is outside of what you asked but I wonder if Belos did have any sort of love for Hunter.
It’s already stated that Belos created Hunter as a toddler. It’s still unconfirmed if he made any other baby grimwalkers. I’m also pretty sure it was confirmed that he experimented on grimwalkers too, so not every grimwalker was a Golden Guard. So I’m going to assume all the previous Golden Guards where older teens to adults. I wonder if he had any attachment to Hunter, I mean he was around since he was basically a baby. It’s hard to imagine not having some fondness for something like that but again this is Belos.
I see different thoughts on why Belos created the grimwalkers, some say it was Belos way of justifying himself and reliving the betrayal over and over, it was genuinely to get an ideal version of Caleb, to have a new brother to take care of him, ect. I genuinely wonder if Belos ever loved a grimwalker, maybe the early ones but that was hundreds of years ago and that’s still a maybe.
He hallucinates Caleb looking down on him, disappointed. He knows subconsciously that what he doing is wrong but he’s too far deep into his delusion that he’s saving mankind from these sinful witches.
In the end they are just tools, an uncanny replacement for the brother he murdered and never got over.
But at the same time he did express disappointment at Hunter not lasting, the collector also question why he didn’t kill Hunter when he had the chance to after eclipse lake which is odd if Hunter is so replaceable. That he genuinely believed that Hunter would stay in line and be his most loyal one.
Actually now that I think about it, Hunter never betrayed Belos explicitly. He only rebelled in small ways like studying wild magic, making friends and having a palismen which Lilith also had. Hunter only nearly got killed because he found out the truth but Belos never gave him the chance to plead for mercy or the option to come back. Who knows if Hunter would have gone back if he was given the chance, Belos could have at least attempted to manipulate him to believing what he saw was fake or something.
He says their betrayals hurt but never shows it. While I do think the grimwalkers are set for failure since the start, he might have had hope that Hunter would have lasted since this one he actually raised this one and the fact that Hunter was actually loyal and devoted to him. It hurts how much this kid loves him.
Idk if the other grimwalkers were tricked to believing Belos was their family or something but Hunter loved him like a father figure and wanted his approval so badly and Belos knew this.
To your hypothetical, imprisoned Belos Au are interesting but something you don’t see often. I think he would spend a lot of time pondering, praying and wondering what if’s. Considering there’s not much to do when you’re locked up. He allowed himself to live in ignorance and hate for so long, was it even worth it? Could have he been happy in a place like the boiling isles? What if he never killed Caleb? What if he never left the human realm? What if he never made a daring spell? Why did he make coven again? What if he gave which kind a chance…? What if he never abused his grimwalkers? It all too crazy and he’s spiraling.
Hunter visits one day despite being told it not a good idea. But how could he not? Despite being abused and hurt in unfathomable ways by him, he still loves him in sick way. He was his only family for so long, that man who kept him isolated. He still fantasizes about being fussed over and loved by Belos, still has ‘fond’ memories of him. So to Belos surprise, the Grimwalker he once killed and abused is now sitting in front of him, ready to chat.
They talk for a bit, Hunter tells him a bit about the outside word and the changes made. He isn’t aggressive or confrontational, he couldn’t be even if he wanted to. Belos stays silent, unsure of what to say. Most grimwalkers expressed hatred before death, yet this one who he actually once killed was chatting with him like it was a normal day. Hunter is terrified but he keeps chatting, pretending this is fine. Belos tries to make his own comments and redirect the conversations but can’t. He lost for words because he’s in a situation not even he foresaw. He expected rage, ridicule or even tears but not this. Hunter was talking to him like he was still family.
I imagine Hunter, in his ill mind, still thinking of Belos as family. Still someone he wants to love despite everything. That he often thinks of him even on good days.
Soon Hunter asks that question if Belos could have ever been happy with him, if he ever loved him. Hunter believes that answer is no, he was already marked for the slaughter with that sigil, a dead man walking. Even if he wants that answer so badly to be yes.
And Belos can’t answer because he’s already thought of this. Could he have been happy with Hunter? Was he fond of Hunter? Was Hunter just a replacement? Was he a good replacement? Could he have loved him outside of being a replacement? Was there any love for the child he raised?
He could say no and hurt Hunter, the ‘love’ was always conditional, he was just a tool, was meant to be dead, ect. (But that might drive Hunter away and Belos is lonely)
He could say yes and give Hunter false hope, manipulate him, make him take pity, revive that old loyalty, ect. (He could get caught in this monitored state and get his only loyal companion ripped away)
But he can’t answer because he doesn’t know. It’s been so long since he had loved. He hated for far too long, he got rid of any chance to love. Was it possible to be happy with Hunter? Just him being Hunter and not some tool or replacement?
Idk this concept is good, I genuinely wonder what would have happened if Belos did actually love Hunter. I don’t think he does or ever did, he was just upset that his tools broke faster than he thought it would but it’s an interesting thought. I think if Belos and Hunter did start to bond in this Au, everything would be bittersweet in the worse ways.
