the ‘dragons’ part of dnd got me interested originally, but it was the fan creations like taz and critical role that really drew me in and kept me around
what a god awful decision
Put a podcast quote in the tags, zero context
thank u @fjordfocused for activating the part of my brain that makes taz sound scapes (album art by @captaincorgiart)
Rainer’s hair looks like rainier cherries.
But I don’t say anything;
Here ya go. Just for fun.
*the adventure zone theme song playing as I lay face down in the grass*
The Adventure Zone ending got me in tears
Drew an indrid! Tried something new with the lines... not sure how I feel about them. But I’d say out of the amnesty NPC’s I’m most interested in hearing about Indrid and Barclay! Being a kid who was obsessed with cryptids in middle school having a mothman and Bigfoot in a story just captures my attention.
He got down on one knee and was like “I present you with my final duck” I was already so excited and this was the cherry on top! THE DUCK SMELLS LIKE LAVENDER TOO!!!
The show was, FANTASTIC! The guys were hilarious and everyone there was so nice! I saw so many awesome cosplays. Like Killian, and Davenport and NO-3113. To the more obscure like Steven the goldfish, and the voidfish.
Also the same Magnus who gave me the duck traded for a haunted doll of a Garfield the deals worlock. Who I saw from the balcony trying to sell his goods during the intermission.
I was not in cosplay but I was dubbed “a blue jeans” So not specifically Barry. But... like I was wearing my favorite jeans.
THE FINAL PAM was also there.
I had so much fun. The show was awesome and I’m so happy I could make it to see everything live and in person.
IS THAT KRAVITZ FROM THE ADVENTURE ZONE!!!!?!?!
What is the TAZ: Balance Music Festival?
It’s a weekend where we get together on a Discord server and listen to music that reminds us of TAZ:Balance characters, story arcs, and ships! Everyone is welcome! There’s discussion of TAZ and its content, other McElroy podcasts, and more!
Who’s involved?
I was a moderator last year, and this time I’m pleased to announce that I’ll be running the festival! Also participating will be my capable co-owner Miles, along with the six members of the moderation team! The server is currently eighty-seven members strong, though that doesn’t count systems. During the rest of the year, the server is very active, and has a strong and friendly community, with events, discussions, and support for one another- you’ll fit right in!
When is this happening?
The festival will run from Saturday, July 24, at 9 AM Central, to Monday, July 25, at 12 AM Central.
Sounds great! How do I join?
Anyone (regardless of age) can join using the link below! Please be sure to read the rules and info carefully!
thank you for the adventure, boys
I’ve never listened to The Adventure Zone, but I feel like I have a pretty good peripheral idea of what it’s about. However- I have recently learned the important detail that each season has different character, which honestly makes way more sense than what I thought TAZ: Amnesty is about, that being: “Taako, Magnus, and Merle somehow get so lost they end up in modern rural West Virginia”.

oh look its the telephone man
im going through taz amnesty again and i still vouch for this duck design i made a year ago in a sociology lecture
sometimes i wake up on a bright thursday morning and think about how clint mcelroy, international radio father, coined ‘taakitz’ the moment shipping was discussed in taz canon. And part of me wonders if clint’s understanding of justin’s love for the macabre informed how much he knew kravitz was supremely taako’s type
sometimes family isn’t two kids and a mom and a dad.
sometimes family is one (1) boy detective, the grim reaper who secretly is a massive dork, a cynical elf wizard who pretends he’s not soft for his whole family, a functional 30 year old man, the 30 year old’s dog army, an elderly beach-living dwarf who runs a summer camp, the beach dwarf’s son and daughter, a gnome pilot, a distressed and exhausted leader of a nonprofit on the moon, a grim reaper who wears blue jeans, his grim reaper wife with a penchant for fire spells, a dragonborn rogue who likes doing flips, her half orc wife who likes doing flips, the actual goddess of death, the actual goddess of fate, a random dude who worked on the moon and fired the 30 year old and the beach dwarf and the elf wizard out of a cannon, and two to three cats owned by the grim reaper dork and the elf wizard.
sometimes garfield shows up.
Man, that flashback episode really reminded me of all the things I hate about Zoox and Devo.
(Which speaks to the McElroys bc I'm pretty sure I am supposed to, if not hate, at least dislike these aspects of their characters)
For Zoox - It's mostly just that he's very callous and easily offended? Which to be fair to him, he's basically a toddler so it's pretty understandable. Just sometimes it rubs me the wrong way, like when he was talking to Hermine about Finneas' lantern and being offended when she tries to keep, what is ostensibly, the corpse of her friend that, to him, is just a lantern with no meaning ascribed to it other than it is his.
My main problem is that this characterisation seems mostly incidental and is framed as positive and at other times he seems rather willing to give things to other people - not a greedy guy for the most part which made the whole thing seem a bit weird to me, but it could just have been a tonal disparity.
Devo is just an asshole. He constantly explodes at people and blames them for things that aren't really their fault (example: Finneas, the sallow) and doesn't provide any constructive feedback alongside his complaints of other people (again: sallow). He's also kind of a hypocrite in that he gets easily offended at things and also seems surprised at people being hostile to him despite his poor treatment of them (see: the bar fight, enlisting the biggest baby). He doesn't really apologise and when he does I feel as if it's often about the wrong thing, just the wrong time or he makes the situation more about him. The apologising thing might just be something he learned from the church, though.
On the subject of the church I feel a large disconnect between the story Devo is telling and the story we are seeing (specifically the lantern room), but I think that might just be due to Travis and Griffin not really discussing it properly between them. I got the impression the lantern memory was worse in Travis's mind than it turned out to be, it was still bad, don't get me wrong, but Guidance was being kind of a good teacher the entire time (as in: there were no threats or punishments, just gentle encouragement - it was a discussion). Which isn't to say I like her - she's a gaslighting, lovebombing bitch. (Specifically: when they talked to her for their contract)
I honestly have no complaints about Amber. She's a well-written, well rounded character who is consistent in both her flaws and her strengths. She's a badass woman who lived through the apocalypse, I don't know what to tell you.
I'm not going to lie: I really don't like Devo. And I really preferred the scientist over him. (He was fun. Hope he shows up again)
But also Devo is somehow my favourite of the three and I'm excited to see how Devo manages his anger issues (which he's acknowledged he has! love that for him) and further develop as a character. As well as potential for seeing what the Church/Hand Of Benevolence is really like (I want them to be really shitty).
All of this to say that a lot of people like this exist and props to Travis and Clint in making me have lots of conflicting feelings about Devo and Zoox
Lup: *crashes through the wall of the lab*
Barry: hot elf lady?! What are you doing doing here?
Lup: *puts on fake moustache glasses*
Barry: *gasp* Lup the hot elf lady!?
concept for a TAZ AU (it’s technically sort of a crossover) (as a fun little game you can guess what it is and i’ll tell you at the end)
Stolen Century still happens, probably mostly the same. The canon divergence happens when we hit Faerûn.
Barry Bluejeans, under the power of the Voidfish, loses all knowledge of his history and context… but he retains his general smarts in science & magic.
Lup works for the Bureau of Balance. Under orders from Lucretia, she goes on secret missions to prevent Barry’s plans.
Barry is self-proclaimedly “evil”. He wants to destroy and/or take over the Moon. He doesn’t remember the real reason, so he makes up a new nonsense reason to hate it each week.
Tres Horny Boys are having their own wacky, highly improbable relic-getting adventures. These occasionally intersect with Barry and Lup’s fights.
To keep from being identified as Taako’s twin, Lup wears a disguise when she goes to fight Barry. Barry’s voidfish-scrambled brain literally cannot identify her without the disguise.
I GUESS Davenport is Lucretia’s unpaid intern
anyway. as you can probably tell if you are already familiar.
this is a phineas and ferb au.
I love Devo but sometimes I want to punch him in his stupid non-existent face
And Done!
This took around 1-2 hours to complete, and was very fun.
I've never drawn the THB before and they're the first thing I've drawn in my new sketchbook (and with my new coloured pencils). I'm very proud of them.
