Ooo, please show us your drawing process, it's like hard candy, I just wanna 👅

Audio: Valentine (Live at The Symphony) by Laufey & Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Heehee thank you!🩵

This is honestly the most coherent painting I've done lol, looking back at all the others, I changed the color palettes sm and was only just starting to grasp my rendering style.

These are the brushes and reference I used, for anyone curious ↓

It Feels Like This Piece Was Created To Become A Banner On One Of My Social Networks... It's A Pity That

It feels like this piece was created to become a banner on one of my social networks... It's a pity that I don't draw stray dogs often enough for it to become the face of the public 👀 But what I get for now is like :3

I’m always so confused when people say “trust the process” when they draw because doesn’t everyone??? Isn’t the joy of art in watching a hideous block of stone reveal it’s insides to you like a blooming flower??? (Lame metaphor but you get my point)

No cuz I swear thats why I love art. I love when I can just splash around on my canvas and watch it all come together like one of those weird Indian-guys-building-mud-houses-in-the-woods-with-a-full-on-swimming-pool-and-water-system videos

Anyway, if you’re a beginner artist, that’s how you get out of your comfort zone: you need to accept that art (or more specifically: drawing, in my case) doesn’t look good at first but ALWAYS does if you keep going. I swear that it does, sometimes it just takes a long time to look good tho lmao, the process takes less time when you get used to it and find shortcuts

If you’re already doing that then congrats! You’re just like me fr fr

figured i’d add to this! here is a process reel going into how i generally do things, and an unlisted youtube video with the speedpaint and additional thoughts is in the works! (because i’m a masochist like that…/nsrs)

obviously i’m still working to improve and this isn’t a tutorial per say; it’s just explaining how i do things, since a few people wanted to know and it seemed fun to talk about lmao

(also, this is fran’s mermay ref, not canonical in the slightest but i figured i’d make one for funsies yk?)

An imagine imagining Francis, the artist's original character, as an anglerfish-themed merfolk. Text reads "Probably some sort of sea witch", "Jaw unhinges; lots of long, sharp teeth", "Much stronger than they look", and "Probably consumes raw flesh of mer who live closer to the surface", as well as their name and the fish they're based on.

Here are the Sargent portraits that I referenced so that you can see where I drew inspiration for this piece!

Mrs. Hugh Hammersley, John Singer Sargent (1892)

I specifically referenced the rug, giltwood furniture, that little round pillow, and her skintones.

A Place To Call Home --- --- ---

A Place to Call Home --- --- ---

This piece was commissioned by my dear friend @tawnyontumblr for HER dear friend @saretton to accompany a WONDERFUL fic that Tawny wrote for Saretton's birthday!

The fic is A Place to Call Home (Explicit, on AO3), a Human AU set in the Late Victorian/1890s and featuring Portrait Painter!Aziraphale and Stage Actor!Crowley as his artistic muse. I am in love with this concept.

Crowley's voice was almost too soft to hear. It nearly faded amidst the sweep of Aziraphale’s brush over canvas, the carriage rattling past outside—another layer of stimuli amidst the light, and the smell of linseed oil and turpentine. The way the fabric Crowley wore hissed gently over his skin as he slowly, minutely shifted position and then moved back.

He half sat half reclined on a Louis XVI armchair that Aziraphale had picked up in an estate sale. His legs were crossed, and the emerald banyan, embroidered with gold, slid from one shoulder. Aziraphale had been staring at that curve of lightly freckled skin while he'd been mixing rose madder and Chinese white, letting the brush sweep over the damp canvas as he sought to give voice to the hunger he felt.

The idea here was for me to paint the portrait of Crowley that Aziraphale is painting in the story.

A Place To Call Home --- --- ---

Tawny asked me to paint with John Singer Sargent vibes, who is quite possibly my favorite artist of all time, and one of, if not the greatest, portrait painters of the 19th century. It's quite a tall order to try to imitate his style, so I settled for something Sargentesque! She also specified that "I want I am both painting and fucking him vibes. Intimate. That's the word." And I hope I delivered.

And further fantastic notes, this time on drawing Michael's likeness.

Ok! Some notes on Michael’s face:

- His face resembles a heart. The features don’t have a distinct feel to me.

- His forehead appears very large in relation to the face. This is due to the wide distance between his temples. The head and neck are also wide, and ears are quite large. The cheekbone and jawbone are soft, which gives the face a feminine or child-like impression when he’s got no facial hair.

- His browbone is curved in a very particular way, and the eye sits deep within the socket, this combination creates a distinctive shadow shape under strong, or even regular light. The ever present shadow makes his own relatively sparse eyebrows insignificant. This is why different eyebrow shapes can alter his look significantly. Also, he has very noticeable eye bags since youth and often dark circles, so his under-eye area is usually darker than most others.

- His nose bridge is short, but extremely tall. The pointy tip tilts heavily upwards, which makes the entire nose feel even taller. This nose is very specifically linked to him, so exaggerating it to a reasonable extent would boost the resemblance.

- The shapes of his eyes, lips, and chin resemble Michelangelo’s David. Well, his lips are thinner, but the curves are still similar.

- His face is generally symmetrical, but the left eye is slightly smaller. It becomes more noticeable when he smiles.

Fantastic notes on drawing David's likeness.

Hi! I'd love to make some Crowley fanart, and I'd love it if you could give me a few pointers about how to keep the Crowley look. Cause you do it so good, maybe yo have something to keep an eye on?

Ooh what a fun question. Let me analyse David Tennant’s very interesting face. This may be a lot more detailed than what you’ve asked for...

- Overall, his face resembles an inverted trapezoid. The features have a very “sharp” feel.

- The distance from the bottom of his nose to his chin is a lot shorter than the the distance from his browbone to the bottom of his nose & the distance from the top of his forehead to his browbone. This makes his nose appear long, but it’s actually because the lip & chin area is shorter.

- The vertex of the convex of his top eyelid leans towards the temple. His brow bones are VERY straight. His cheekbones are quite high and pronounced. The tip of his nose is split and tilts downwards. His bottom lip is a lot thicker than the top lip and protrudes slightly, but his lip area as a whole is slightly sinked in.

- His face is noticeably asymmetrical. The browbone is not levelled, and the nose bridge leans to the left.

By the way, does anyone want to see my notes on painting Michael’s face? 😆
