I Don't Think Horikoshi Has Ever Seen A Reptile Cause Why The Hell Does Spinner Look Like That

i don't think horikoshi has ever seen a reptile cause why the hell does spinner look like that

anyways i based him on an anole instead of a gecko because anoles are very very good at climbing and imo spinner looks more like an anole than a gecko

I Love To Imagine That Spinner Is A Hopeless Romantic And Shigaraki Is Just Completely Oblivious.

I love to imagine that Spinner is a hopeless romantic and Shigaraki is just completely oblivious.

last words

Spinner's name means "someone/something who spins". In the original Japanese, his name is just the romanization of the English word 'spinner' - 「スピナー」 (supinaa).

When characters in the manga define it, they often use 「紡ぐ者」 (tsumugumono) lit. 'a person who spins'. 「紡」 is the key character here, meaning spin, in the way one spins yarn, or spins a story.

Spinner deliberately choose this name because he wanted to 'spin' Stain's dream into reality.

Last Words

Later, when he abandons following Stain to follow Shigaraki, All For One takes notes of his meaning of his name, to tell him that he'll be helping Shigaraki to 'spin' his goal [into reality]. (Viz translates this as "support Shigaraki Tomura in his crusade and do justice to your name... as one who spins this tale.")

Last Words

This is appropriate, because during and since the MVA arc, Spinner has been doing everything he can to support Shigaraki's dream of destruction - to achieve their goal of 'that beautiful horizon'. Throughout the third act, Spinner's still trying to spin that dream into being.

Last Words
Last Words

And it is their goal - it was Shigaraki who first talked about the 'horizon' in his speech to Ujiko, the speech that affected Spinner so much he started down the path of devotion to Shigaraki; so that Spinner would be the only one out of everyone in the League to see Shigaraki's horizon in Deika (the prettiest thing he has ever seen). Somehow, Shigaraki figures this out, so that much later, when Shigaraki is preparing to decay Mt. Fuji, he dedicates this destruction to Spinner - to "build the horizon... that Spinner's been looking forward to."

But-- Shigaraki fails. Deku stops him, and Shigaraki seemingly dies. He dies without having built that horizon, without having destroying anything.

In Shigaraki's final moments, Deku tells him, "I wanted to stop you. I wanted you to stop yourself. To keep that grief and misery from spreading any further."

In Japanese, when Deku talks about this 'cycle of sadness', he says he wants it to 'stop spinning' - 「紡がれない」 (tsumugarenai). His line uses the same character meaning 'spin' as the one I talked about above - 「紡」

Last Words

lit. 'so the sadness won't spin'

Shigaraki listens to Deku's words, and after a moment, says to him:

"If Spinner is alive... tell him Shigaraki Tomura fought to destroy to the bitter end."

I thought before and still think it's Shigaraki leaving some words of comfort for Spinner. He failed to destroy everything, failed to succeed in reaching his goal (which is Spinner's goal, because it's Shigaraki's goal, because it's the goal Shigaraki made for the League); but he did try his hardest. He died trying to achieve their horizon, because until the very end, he was keeping their promise as best as he could.

Maybe, it's also: don't worry about the failure; all the way until the end of his life, Shigaraki Tomura got to chase after his dream, their dream.

Maybe even, when taking all of the context from above and putting it into these last words of Shigaraki's: but it's stopped. Thus, Spinner doesn't have to spin for him anymore. The sadness has stopped spinning. Maybe: If Spinner stops on his own, Heroes won't have to stop him. If he's still alive, he can stay alive.

And see, the Shigaraki that says these words is the 'same' Shigaraki as the one in Spinner's memories of the two of them talking about games together. You can tell by the visuals:

In the panel right before Shigaraki tells Deku to deliver a message, the lock of hair on Shigaraki's face falls below his nose; and the locks of hair that frames his face falls below his chin.

Last Words

But in the panel where he gives those very last words, he's wearing a black shirt. His lock of hair on his face does not reach past his nose. The locks of hair framing his face ends at the level of his mouth.

Last Words
Last Words

So this is the Shigaraki from Spinner's memories of them being just two gamers. This is the moment they weren't Villains or boss and subordinate; they were just two guys, close in age, (getting along better than Spinner thought, bonding over games and stuff), being friends.

Last Words

Shigaraki is giving his last words as Spinner's friend; and they are to tell him, i kept our promise. i chased our dream.

A Reminder That Spinner Canonically Compares Himself To Dabi And Feels Inferior To The Rest Of The League

A reminder that Spinner canonically compares himself to Dabi and feels inferior to the rest of the League of Villains.

Part of the reason he allowed AFO to manipulate him is because he wanted to be reliable, as in he wanted to be stronger to be of use to Tomura. So again, he's canonically kinda jealous not only of Dabi's quirk, but of him as a person.

It's interesting to me that horikoshi decided to give the other members sort of bored expressions in response to this interaction. to me, that implies that it's not unusual for spinner and tomura to be like this

Spinaraki week day day four: Dream

Spinner’s leg twitched under the heaviness of two weighted blankets. His eyes were shut tightly his hair a tangled mess. His body was sprawled across the bed under the cloth, both his arms released from the constraints folded under his snout. A drip of drool pooling down on his pillow. The room was dim, a slither of light from the moon shining through the curtains. Little hums could be heard from a fan at the other side of the room, slowly turning left from right. His tail squirmed under the blanket, his body flipping over as his arms flailed to the sides. His tail curled wrapping against his torso, a few clicks escaping from the lizard boy's snout. The blue haired man stood atop of the mossy rock Infront the dragon born, looking down at the rivered before them, it was a calm one littered with mossy rocks that stacked to make small waterfalls in the water bed. The man had no shirt, only scoring a pair of a warm chestnut Harem pants. Shuichi stared out Infront of him, his eyes glazing over his elven boss’s toned back, traveling down from the shoulder blades to the man's waist. Sweat rolled down, glistening in the sunlight, his hair was plastered against his skin, drenched from sweat. He crouched down, lowering his hand, feeling the water rush pasts his digits, the stream cool but not freezing.

“Right then, Water here seems fine to wash up in,” Tomura shook the droplets of water from his hand, rising back up, hopping down from the rock which he stood upon. Turning to Shuichi. “Well, we should wash up now, it was some difficult battles today, surprised we were even able to get by that Lynel with no arrows stuck in our backs,” The man chuckled, crouching down to rummage through his bag, taking out a few rags. “Yeah, were getting better, we almost have enough gems to upgrade our armor. .” Shuichi walked forward, grabbing a rag from the others hand, his claws brushing against the others palm. “I’ve been eyeing that cloak in the merchant’s shop, Giran is willing to give me a discount,” Shuichi continued, tossing how own shirt to the side, stretching his arms behind him. “Mhm. .” Tomura hummed already hiking into the water his body shivering at the cold chill. He used the rock next to him to stabilize his movements, careful to not slip on the slippery holds below him till he reached the sand bed within the river. “C’mon Shuichi join,” Shuichi’s eyes wandered, admiring his boss as he slowly joined him, his steps carefully placed his soles gripping onto the slippery surfaces below his feet till he reached the same sandy bay in the middle of the flowing river, the water clear when looking down, able to see his own clawed feet below him. He shivered, the cold affecting him more than the other, his cold blood unable to gather as much heat. The elf's eyes were a dark crimson, a shine of cherry from the lowering sun. His left eye disrupted by the scar from his childhood, a cut into the eyelids that revealed more or the white gloss. Irritation decorated his face, scritch and scratch marks clawed into the face permanently, framing his eyes and mouth. Two small moles were placed to, one beneath his eyes and the other his lip. His bottom lip was slightly redder, though both rough with flaked skin, a scar on the right side, clefting the lips Shuichi found him beautiful, a sight to behold, his hand struggling to not reach to cup at the scarred cheek, to not bring the man closer to him. Shuichi dunked himself in the cold water, his hair flowing with the stream. He blew from his nostrils a stream of bubbles surfacing only to pop at the impact of air. He could hear a muffled splash, his eyes opening slightly to see Tomura also sunken in the water, his fingers combing through his floating blue hair, his pointed ears sticking out. Shuichi gasped, rising back, Tomura following suit. The both of them combing their hair back out of their faces. Reaching for his cloth, he started to scrub himself from any grime left between his scales. Tomura doing the same, though gentler, to not irritate his delicate skin.

“You were inspecting that new sword ya’ found earlier, you think it’s powerful?” Tomura interrupted the silence, scrubbing his back as he looked at the other with a quirked brow. Shuichi looked to the side, where his new achievement waited on the ground. It was caked with grime, stuck to the metal blade. He found it wedged against a mountain on their hike to their new camp the hilt only peeking out the slightest catching the lizard's eye. “Yeah, might be pretty good after cleaned, there's some runes on the hilt, might be magic, going to need you to help detect if it cursed or not though” He answered, already turning back to meet with the other who threw his cloth to the side. Shuichi still had some areas to scrub out, so he continued. Though he could hear faint splashes which he looked up to find Tomura who stood closer, leaning forward a bit, his hand outstretched. Seemingly to grab for the rag which Shuichi handed to him. “yeah, I'll do some detections and some seals too once you clean it. . .” The man moved behind Shuichi, pressing the rag against the scaled back, helping scrub the grime off, as his other hand rested atop of the dragonborn’s shoulder, a finger raised. Shuichi shuttered at the touch though his long tail swaying behind him revealed how he felt. His comrade continued, slowly washing away all the debris that was left on him, his hand rubbing at the scaled shoulder. Shuichi's mouth was slightly agape, his heart beating fast and hard, his cheeks having an orange tint as his face seemed to get warmer. The other grabbed Shuichi’s swaying tail, making the other hiccup. Slowly the cloth went over it, taking off the grime left behind. Twisting his hand and rubbing the underside, the tail nearly trembling in his hands.

Shuichi twisted himself, turning his head to look into the others eyes who stared right back at him. His tail falling as the other let go tossing the cloth to where he had tossed his own. “Alright. . . were going to have a cold night tonight, so you set up the tent kay’? Make sure to towel up fast, can’t have you slow down cause’ of the cold,” Tomura hummed, giving his shoulder one last squeeze before hiking out of the river, his pants soaked. Shuichi watched as he left, grabbing a towel, leaving to where they dropped their bags to change into dry clothing. All he could do is watch before adverting his gaze when the other looked to the river, checking on his companion, though the image of Tomura toned torso was ingrained into his head.

Spinner’s eyes shot open, the light shining from the crack between the curtains brighter as a few birds could be heard chirping. He looked to the side, his eyes wandering around the room before he grabbed a pillow, harshly gripping it as he held it to his body, sinking his teeth into it. His face was flushed, darker than he thought could show through his scales. His tail was curled tightly inwards through his legs up his stomach, his legs too scrunching as he held the pillow close. His mind scrambled, trying to remember each detail from the memories of his dream, piecing together the diminishing thoughts of Tomura, his elven friend and leader. How he talked, how he looked, how he caressed the others scales. All of this made Spinner shudder.

Spinaraki week day three! : Horizon

I decided to do a mix of art and writing for this week so here is the first fic :>

Tomura gasped as his legs lost balance, his crutch falling out of his grip to the side, squinting his eye shut he braced for impact, using his one undamaged arm to shield his face. “Hmph!” Tomura eyes opened, widening looking down at the floor he nearly hit. A scaled arm braced him at his chest, a clawed hands grabbing a hold of his shoulder. Spinner pulled him up slowly, his hands still gripped tightly on the man beside him. “Boss, you alright?” Spinner’s expression looked genuine with concern as Tomura raised his head to gaze at the scaled man.

“Yeah I’m alright,” Tomura cleared his throat, Tomura attempted to regain his balance, his gaze shifting around the floor trying to find his lost crutch with no avail. His arm being poked was what startled him out for his search, Spinner’s tail poking against his skin, his crutch hanging on the limb. “Oh. . Thank you,” Tomura thanked him, grabbing the crutch back, sliding it off his tail.

“Yeah, glad to. . want me to help ya’ to your room?” Spinner’s head pressed closer, trying to get a better look at Tomuras expression. The other nodded, seemingly deciding to keep quiet. Spinner huffed a sigh as he slid his arm across the others back, steadily walking beside Tomura. The Corridors were long and quite sumptuous compared to their past abandoned warehouses and motels. They would be covered in grime infested with pests and roaches. Cobwebs would decorate every corner and crevice, often times the league would have to sleep in these places due to it being unsafe to even travel back to their homes. His place wasn’t that much better anyways, half the time he couldn’t pay the utility bills, and only the rent. Leaving his place freezing, and dark.

His attention turned back to Tomura who slowly walked with him, the others face was simple yet warm. He didn’t look annoyed nor happy, just perusing on as he used his crutch in long strides. Tomura was covered head to toe in bandages, his arm and leg were practically shattered, bandages wrappers around his forehead, from cracks and injuries that were implemented on him a few days back, during the fight from Redestro. Spinner thought back to the instance, the battle, the fight between his leader and the Bulged-out hulk. Though he more on focused on the Horizon he saw at the end of it, how he saw Tomura, standing above the other, his stance strong, his will endearing . . he saw a crumbling horizon...it was the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen.

Spinner wanted to talk to Tomura, wanted to tell him of the horizon he saw how he felt, how he wanted to follow the other to the end of time. He would, he really would, Tomura was amazing. His mission was true and Spinner wanted to follow him at every damn turn the man would make. He remembered seeing a little boy trying to catch his dreams in Tomuras eyes, now he knew that he would and he would be behind him as the man conquered his dreams. When Tomura stood in the huge crater he had cultivated, the dent of which he put his mark when defeating Redestro, dust and Debre scattered about the air. Spinners eyes were glazed, his heart beating fast and hard His body ached, His arm hung limp, blood pouring out of the wound deeply imbedded in the limb. Every ounce of pian seeming to alleviate as he stared at the figure in the center of his vision. Tomura was heaving, Spinner could see his body rise and fall with each breath the man took, his hair was now a cream white, the length seeming to be more obvious with the new pallet, His legs and arm were bloody and a vibrant purple from how bruised and broken they had become. Yat still, he had a crazy smile, grinning like a mad man, his tooth gap visible. It was a sight to behold, one Thet Spinner kept replaying in his mind, he felt every ache, he could recall how his mind scattered at his new muse.“Tomura?”

Shigaraki's attention turned back to Spinner, his eyes widening at the use of his first name. Spinner's brows were furrowed his lips of sorts, quivering slightly, His eyes avoiding Tomura. “Yes . . Shuichi?” Spinners eyed widened even more, finally meeting the others gaze by the name.

“I wanted to uhm. . Talk to you about something” His bit onto his bottom lip, his words trying to gather but all they did was tangle within each other. He looked away again, back to the pathway Infront of them, encountering a set of stairs. Slowly he helped lift Tomura onto the first step, then himself, a steady pattern to keep both of them steady. His eyes stayed focus on the others footwork, careful to not allow the other to trip. “I wanted to talk about the uhm, the fight in Deika? Right once you succeeded against-”

“The Final boss? AKA Redestro,” Tomura cut off, humming slightly as he heaved another step. Spinner gulped, attempting to regain his own line of thoughts that he could attempt to muster out of his quivering mouth. “Well final boss of that level,” The man added on, though leaving out an explanation. Spinner knew what he meant though.

“Yeah, yeah, I wanted to talk about what I saw. .” He hummed between his words, nervous about it all. “You standing there. .  In the center you know, after the boss battle, it was. . It was fucking. . Beautifull, a beautiful horizon I mean. I could finally really see your goal, And I could finally know how to follow it. It was a lot, really, I was fucking aching and a mess, I was all banged up but All I could focus on was you, how you stood there with no mercy and a crazed grin on your face, even with all the worse injuries you sustained yourself. Even seeing Gigantomachia kneel down, It was a sign of power, and I know how you joke around using king as a descriptive to yourself. .but I see you as one, I see you as someone who could rule the whole of Japan and more as a king, and I would be you know, a knight of sorts. . not a strong one of course but. .Really I’m just saying the scene was magnificent and I want to be there once you defeat the true final boss,” The man gulped, his ramble coming to an end as he waited for the other to reply. Tomura looked unchanging, but Spinner knew that that couldn’t actually be the case.

They finished the stairs, walking down a new hall, only a bit away the master bedroom which Tomura now occupies. The man stayed silent, he only looked forward, his crutch still making long strides as he huffed. Spinner chooses to silence himself to.  He said what he wanted his words were finally knotted into a cringe speech which he would dread for the rest of time, his only wish being Tomuras come true, and with him behind his friend. Tomura let go of the crutch, leaning it against his side as he reached for the doorknob, turning it. Opening the door he looked back at Shuichi, who finally moved his arm away stood behind him, biting his inner cheek as his arms hung limp at his sides. “So. . I leveled up in intimidation. . and also, likeability from colleagues? Thats great for the long run. .” Tomura hummed, walking through the door way before looking back at the other. “I will make the horizon for you. I promise I won't disappoint you Shuichi,” Tomura assured, another smile forming, one not crazed but soft and warm. Spinners eyes glistening at the lovely sight. “Till then, lets focus on leveling up our relation. . Thats also great for the end game you know?” Spinner heart faltered, nearly stopping as he was pulled into the room.  - I'm not the best writer -.-"
