I hate Horikoshi
Heyoooo
I tested some of D.A's suggestion for some of MHA's Season 7 shots. For Toga, I don't know what the weather is like at the moment. But I tested a cloudier and more threatening sky. For Tomura, I realized that his fight against Star and Stripes was supposed to take place in the stratosphere. I therefore tested an A.D. taking this parameter into account.
Found WIP. I won't finish this but they're too perfect to be kept hidden.
New MHA Volume 41 extra page: Izuku and Tenko
A bunch of Tomura sketches i did while back
Well screw you too random person on the internet š
Donāt you think that Tomura, a man drowning in grief, whoās been denied affection, would cling to the league like a lifeline? Would go to sleep and each time he wakes up pray that theyāre still there, still alive? Do you think he would ever forgive himself for losing twice, for letting the heroes get to them?
Has anybody else been so hyped after reading the latest chapters of MHA (418-422) because of the hints that the identity of Deku's father will be revealed soon?
In chapter 422, The U.S. president is shown, stating that all American heroes are to come to Japan, so perhaps Deku's father might be on that list of people arriving to help out.
I know there is still the possibility of the reveal being Dad for One, which is an interesting theory in my opinion, but the other chance that it might be an individual who works with heroes or is one of them also seems very intriguing.
It could also be the president himself, given how he is always in the shadows, but I honestly feel there is a slim chance for that to be true.
I can't be certain how Horikoshi will put the puzzle pieces of who Izuku's father is together, but I feel the president panels might be a piece of the puzzle somehow. His face is in the shadows...
...but again so was AFO's face for a long time.
I still feel really strongly about the DFO theory. On one hand I do see how people might be displeased by it, because AFO does insert himself in a lot of characters lives and influences them from the background, but precisely because of that I find him a very interesting and fleshed out character. So desperate for attention and love, even when he has it he doesn't know how to respond to it. He is also quite a charming character, which I feel you would have to be to impress the lovely Inko Midoriya. She is just too amazing, I also feel that he would be drawn to her as well because of that. Or perhaps because she bears resemblance to a certain Shimura? But again, Inko is very different to Nana, as in, she appears much softer as a character than Nana does, and I feel AFO would crave that from a person given that he wasn't taken care of and had to help his brother out and grew up in a very feral state and an incredibly hostile environment for anybody, let alone a child. Even though he does end up using people, I do think that that is because of his defense mechanism and constant living on survival mode affecting him.
AFO is also someone who doesn't want people to know the real him, his weaknesses and inner thoughts, his human side. The memories he does share with Deku and Tomura are only to traumatize them and break them up; in short: they are carefully curated.
If DFO does come into play, I feel that Tomura/Tenko will have a hand in the reveal. Perhaps helping or saving Izuku from within the vestige world? Maybe he will be able to help by seeing Izuku's memories and altering them like Deku did for him, because in the case that does end up happening, Deku will be the one needing a helping hand in coping with the reveal, and who better than the boy who that man was a father figure to as well. And in the end Deku and Tomura could also together "defeat" AFO by seeing his memories and saving the defenseless child he once was.
This is probably overthinking, but I wanted to share my thoughts with you guys. I love trying to guess what will happen and still being surprised by Horikoshi's amazing execution each time. I would love to read what you guys have to say on the topic.
I've been reading this manga for 6 years now, and League of Villains has become something special to me. The only thing I'm thankful to Horikoshi for is them.

League of Villains: Circus AU pt. 2
I mean, all members of The League are beautiful and handsome but Spinner doesn't get much credit
- Boss, the heroes have won another fight, what's our plan?
- It's Saturday, Dabi. We relax and do nothing.

Trio Adopted AU! I've gotten way too many ideas for MHA AUs so I've decided to technically lump a few of them together. Just know that all three of these fine young peeps have been adopted by the one, the only, INKO MIDOYRIA.
Is this an excuse to screw All for One over? Yes. Very much yes. I hate that walking ballsack of a man. So having arguably three of this most useful "tools" ripped away from him? HELL YEAH. I don't got much in terms of story or lore, but just know, I intend to break canon here. A LOT.
I tend to do that. All I can hope is to actually finish the damn thing.

first meeting? he barely acknowledges you. he's got bigger things to worry about than some new recruit. you're just another pawn to him.
he watches you carefully during your first mission together. not because heĀ cares, but because he needs to know if you're competent enough to be useful. if you screw up, expect a harsh comment.
your quirk fascinates him, but not in a good way at first. he sees it as a variable he needs to understand and control. he might ask you a million questions.
if your quirk is touch-based, he'sĀ extremelyĀ wary. he'll keep his distance and probably wear gloves even when he's not using his own quirk.Ā
he forgets your name for weeks. you're just "the [quirk name] user" to him.
he tests you, pushing your buttons, and trying to figure out what makes you tick. he needs to know everything about his teammates, obviously.
you're probably the only one who doesn't flinch when he gets angry. he notices.
the first time he actually listens to you ā really listens, not juststrategizing ā he's caught off guard.Ā
he starts finding excuses to be around you. "i need to observe your quirk usage" turns into "i'm sitting in the same room as you while you do absolutely nothing."
he gets unreasonably irritated when other league members talk to you for too long. he would never admit he's jealous.
he starts mimicking your mannerisms, subconsciously.Ā
he starts cleaning up his hands some more. not because he wants to touch you, no, no, no. it's because he wants to seem presentable for all for one.
small acts of "kindness," like making sure you're included in mission briefings or "allowing" you to choose your assignments. he's still the boss, after all.
he notices the little things about you: the way you furrow your brow when you're concentrating, the way you fidget when you're nervous, your favorite snack.
he'll deny it to his grave, but he starts taking your opinions into consideration.
he starts scratching his neck a LOT more when you are around for some reason.
if someone hurts you, he is more enraged than he is normaly.
he is more likely to listen to you.
he can't help but stare at you.
he accidentally calls you by a pet name when he's frustrated, and he gets even MORE frustrated after he realizes what he did.
he starts losing sleep, which is never a good sign for his mental state. he doesn't know why, it must be because you are bothering him or something.
the "confession" is less of a romantic declaration and more of a mumbled agreement. "i guess you're... not entirely useless."
physical touch is a HUGE hurdle. it starts with accidental brushes, then maybe a hesitant shoulder bump. he doesn't trust himself (or his quirk) to get any closer.Ā
lots of late-night talks about villains, society, and their shared hatred. it's his way of connecting.
he still doesn't say your name often. pet names become his go-to.
he is very protective and possessive of you.
dates? forget fancy restaurants or romantic walks. you're more likely to find yourselves planning world domination over cheap ramen.
he actually listens and remembers things you say and like; if it's useful for a mission, of course.
he can get jealous and possessive, and he isn't afraid to show it.
he occasionally wants to hold your hand but doesn't know how to approach it without disintegrating you.
he gets genuinely upset if you get hurt.
he hates seeing you sad or stressed.
he's still a mess, butĀ yourĀ mess. And secretly, he wouldn't have it any other way.
sleepovers are uncommon since his skin can be harmful, but there are nights when he is okay with it.
he's not a cuddler, but he secretly likes it when you snuggle him.
he always wants to be around you.
he would go with you everywhere.
he's willing to doĀ anythingĀ for you once he's in love.
when he actually calls you his partner, you know its serious.
sometimes when he's asleep, he has nightmares of you leaving him/ dying, so he hugs you closer in his sleep.
he would take you out on a picnic if you asked, even though he would hate it.
he will often ask you if you are doing alright or if you needed anything.
he would kill for you.
you are, without a doubt, his player 2.
he would never admit it, but you are his weakness.
it makes him very happy when you hug him.
he likes hearing you call him by his name.
he will do anything for you; wether itāsĀ killingĀ dealing with someone, or if itās getting you anything you desire
heĀ lovesĀ tolerates you a lot

I decided to do a mix of art and writing for this week so here is the first fic :>
Tomura gasped as his legs lost balance, his crutch falling out of his grip to the side, squinting his eye shut he braced for impact, using his one undamaged arm to shield his face. āHmph!ā Tomura eyes opened, widening looking down at the floor he nearly hit. A scaled arm braced him at his chest, a clawed hands grabbing a hold of his shoulder. Spinner pulled him up slowly, his hands still gripped tightly on the man beside him. āBoss, you alright?ā Spinnerās expression looked genuine with concern as Tomura raised his head to gaze at the scaled man. Ā
āYeah Iām alright,ā Tomura cleared his throat, Tomura attempted to regain his balance, his gaze shifting around the floor trying to find his lost crutch with no avail. His arm being poked was what startled him out for his search, Spinnerās tail poking against his skin, his crutch hanging on the limb. āOh. . Thank you,ā Tomura thanked him, grabbing the crutch back, sliding it off his tail.Ā
āYeah, glad to. . want me to help yaā to your room?ā Spinnerās head pressed closer, trying to get a better look at Tomuras expression. The other nodded, seemingly deciding to keep quiet. Spinner huffed a sigh as he slid his arm across the others back, steadily walking beside Tomura. The Corridors were long and quite sumptuous compared to their past abandoned warehouses and motels. They would be covered in grime infested with pests and roaches. Cobwebs would decorate every corner and crevice, often times the league would have to sleep in these places due to it being unsafe to even travel back to their homes. His place wasnāt that much better anyways, half the time he couldnāt pay the utility bills, and only the rent. Leaving his place freezing, and dark.Ā
His attention turned back to Tomura who slowly walked with him, the others face was simple yet warm. He didnāt look annoyed nor happy, just perusing on as he used his crutch in long strides. Tomura was covered head to toe in bandages, his arm and leg were practically shattered, bandages wrappers around his forehead, from cracks and injuries that were implemented on him a few days back, during the fight from Redestro. Spinner thought back to the instance, the battle, the fight between his leader and the Bulged-out hulk. Though he more on focused on the Horizon he saw at the end of it, how he saw Tomura, standing above the other, his stance strong, his will endearing . . he saw a crumbling horizon...it was the most beautiful thing heād ever seen.Ā
Spinner wanted to talk to Tomura, wanted to tell him of the horizon he saw how he felt, how he wanted to follow the other to the end of time. He would, he really would, Tomura was amazing. His mission was true and Spinner wanted to follow him at every damn turn the man would make. He remembered seeing a little boy trying to catch his dreams in Tomuras eyes, now he knew that he would and he would be behind him as the man conquered his dreams. When Tomura stood in the huge crater he had cultivated, the dent of which he put his mark when defeating Redestro, dust and Debre scattered about the air. Spinners eyes were glazed, his heart beating fast and hard His body ached, His arm hung limp, blood pouring out of the wound deeply imbedded in the limb. Every ounce of pian seeming to alleviate as he stared at the figure in the center of his vision. Tomura was heaving, Spinner could see his body rise and fall with each breath the man took, his hair was now a cream white, the length seeming to be more obvious with the new pallet, His legs and arm were bloody and a vibrant purple from how bruised and broken they had become. Yat still, he had a crazy smile, grinning like a mad man, his tooth gap visible. It was a sight to behold, one Thet Spinner kept replaying in his mind, he felt every ache, he could recall how his mind scattered at his new muse.āTomura?āĀ
Shigaraki's attention turned back to Spinner, his eyes widening at the use of his first name. Spinner's brows were furrowed his lips of sorts, quivering slightly, His eyes avoiding Tomura. āYes . . Shuichi?ā Spinners eyed widened even more, finally meeting the others gaze by the name. Ā
āI wanted to uhm. . Talk to you about somethingā His bit onto his bottom lip, his words trying to gather but all they did was tangle within each other. He looked away again, back to the pathway Infront of them, encountering a set of stairs. Slowly he helped lift Tomura onto the first step, then himself, a steady pattern to keep both of them steady. His eyes stayed focus on the others footwork, careful to not allow the other to trip. āI wanted to talk about the uhm, the fight in Deika? Right once you succeeded against-āĀ
āThe Final boss? AKA Redestro,ā Tomura cut off, humming slightly as he heaved another step. Spinner gulped, attempting to regain his own line of thoughts that he could attempt to muster out of his quivering mouth. āWell final boss of that level,ā The man added on, though leaving out an explanation. Spinner knew what he meant though.Ā
āYeah, yeah, I wanted to talk about what I saw. .ā He hummed between his words, nervous about it all. āYou standing there. . Ā In the center you know, after the boss battle, it was. . It was fucking. . Beautifull, a beautiful horizon I mean. I could finally really see your goal, And I could finally know how to follow it. It was a lot, really, I was fucking aching and a mess, I was all banged up but All I could focus on was you, how you stood there with no mercy and a crazed grin on your face, even with all the worse injuries you sustained yourself. Even seeing Gigantomachia kneel down, It was a sign of power, and I know how you joke around using king as a descriptive to yourself. .but I see you as one, I see you as someone who could rule the whole of Japan and more as a king, and I would be you know, a knight of sorts. . not a strong one of course but. .Really Iām just saying the scene was magnificent and I want to be there once you defeat the true final boss,ā The man gulped, his ramble coming to an end as he waited for the other to reply. Tomura looked unchanging, but Spinner knew that that couldnāt actually be the case. Ā
They finished the stairs, walking down a new hall, only a bit away the master bedroom which Tomura now occupies. The man stayed silent, he only looked forward, his crutch still making long strides as he huffed. Spinner chooses to silence himself to. Ā He said what he wanted his words were finally knotted into a cringe speech which he would dread for the rest of time, his only wish being Tomuras come true, and with him behind his friend. Tomura let go of the crutch, leaning it against his side as he reached for the doorknob, turning it. Opening the door he looked back at Shuichi, who finally moved his arm away stood behind him, biting his inner cheek as his arms hung limp at his sides. āSo. . I leveled up in intimidation. . and also, likeability from colleagues? Thats great for the long run. .ā Tomura hummed, walking through the door way before looking back at the other. āI will make the horizon for you. I promise I won't disappoint you Shuichi,ā Tomura assured, another smile forming, one not crazed but soft and warm. Spinners eyes glistening at the lovely sight. āTill then, lets focus on leveling up our relation. . Thats also great for the end game you know?ā Spinner heart faltered, nearly stopping as he was pulled into the room.Ā - I'm not the best writer -.-"
Tenko walking
When he gets drunk he pretty much goes completely nonverbal, not bothering to use his words anymore and instead communicating through grumbles and grunts. He also gets really clingy when drunk, with the more drunk he gets the more willing he is to cling to absolutely anyone who gets close to him. This makes it a requirement for him to wear his gloves when he's drinking, otherwise someone may end up a pile of dust on the ground.
He gets pretty chatty while drunk, an insane amount actually. He'll talk about practically anything; his past, his favorite video games, his parents, his thoughts PokƩmon strength and weakness, absolutely anything becomes on the table and it's imposable to shut him up. The more drunk he gets, the more incoherent his words become until he just passes out.
He starts having a go at the karaoke machine and dancing like a man who's got nothin' to lose. He's actually really good at singing despite being drunk, I know typically when someone's drunk their singing gets worse but in Dabi's case, he actually just keeps his skill level, just less impulse control. He's an incredibly well coronated drunk, never once falls during his dance routine unless he intended to.
He becomes a lot flirtier than he normally would be, with him losing the impulse control to not flirt with anyone he finds attractive. Interesting enough though, if he's in a monogamous relationship he'll only flirt with his partner. Even if he's around someone he was attracted to before he started dating this other person, he'll still only flirt with his SO. Basically, when he's in a committed relationship his ability to find others attractive kinda just vanishes except for his partner. Also, his ability to flirt is a lot less sophisticated than it normally would be. Not in a, "he's being creepy" way, more so in a, "he won't stop telling you how pretty/cute/hot you are". His ability to use big, sophisticated, and well put together words/sentences to flirt has disappeared for the time being, he'll regain them when sober.
He can't really get drunk. Now hear me out on this one! A personal headcanon of mine is that Kurogiri was not only given Warp Gate as a quirk, but also a bunch of smaller less noticeable quirks. One grants him a regenerative ability that makes it so injuries that would normally take a day to heal will instead heal in a few hours, another gives him a perfect internal clock, and (the one important for the headcanon here) one that gives him heighten poison resistance. Since alcohol is technically a poison, a side effect of this quirk is that he can now chug straight vodka and remain sober. This also leads to him having a high spice tolerance and caffeine not doing anything for him, with both caffeine and capsaicin are poisons. This ultimately led to the headcanon that in the MHA Panera's Charged Lemonade, instead of being an affront to God and a sin against the FDA, is instead marketed specifically for those with quirks around poison resentence so that they can use caffeine to get through their day. So that's how Kurogiri is able to handle the League and all their stillness, with the lawsuit making lemonade.
He's a sad drunk, like, a really sad drunk. He just starts sobbing and questioning all of his life decisions. He won't stop crying until he passes out. He needs to down soooooooooo much water afterwards to regain all the hydration he lost through his tears. This has kinda lead to him being banned from getting drunk anywhere away from the League, as they're concerned that if this 30-year-old man starts sobbing uncontrollably in public that'll draw to much attention and someone might recognize him and get the pros called on him. He doesn't really have an issue with this, after all he lives with the League now so he can basically just stay home and drink with family instead of going out to some bar with a bunch of strangers who probably couldn't give less of fuck about him.
Currently is not allowed to drink, has she is 16. When she becomes 18, she'll be allowed to drink (that's the legal age for drinking in Japan, for my fellow Americans who forget that other countries decided that if you're old enough to sign a contract you're old enough to drink). When she is able to get drunk, all of her impulse control goes out the fucking window. Not only does this mean that she's more likely to stab people, it also means that she's willing to jump out a window to see if she can fly. After her first time being drunk lead to her being put out of commission for a week and all of the League (except Kurogiri, he's very good at dodging) having new knife scars, it is now a requirement for someone who's sober to be responsible for her when she's drunk. Luckily Kurogiri fits into this role perfectly, so he's now the one to be responsible to make sure she doesn't hurt herself or others when drunk.
Shigaraki ran through the woods as fast as he could, each muscle that goes into such a thing pounding away with pain scattering across his body. He was so damn careful, he was sure that he wouldn't get caught at the supply run for some food with sustenance but things just had to go down hill! First there were three different hero groups patrolling the area, then he found that one of them had the current number one hero, and finally he got spotted by said number one hero and chased into the woods. Good news was that it was pretty easy to spot where he was due to the fire and he was clearly gaining some space between the two. Apparently being a six foot tall giant did not give way for being partially nimble, which was what was needed more in the woods. Once far enough away Shigaraki ducked behind a tree to hide, doing his best to slow his breath down to not give his position away. Endeavor eventually caught up but wasn't able to see him.Ā
āWhere the hell did he go?!ā He nearly shouted, fire burning brighter than it was before in his rage.Ā
āRelax Endeavor, it's not like he could get that far away.ā Hawks pointed out.Ā
Shigaraki was mentally glad that he tried to fly through the woods instead of running since his wingspan slowed him down a bit, he was also glad that Mirko stayed behind to see if there were any other villains around. There likely wasn't but if they were they weren't a part of the LOV so it didn't matter to him. He finally took in his surroundings a bit more and noticed something a bit odd. In front of him was a black book with a red triangle man on it.Ā
Shigaraki reached out and picked up the book and looked more clearly at it. It wasn't really anything of note, other than the fact that it appeared to just have been abandoned in the woods. He sat there waiting for about half an hour before Endeavor and Hawks decided that Shigaraki had double backed and was back at the store so they ran back. He waited another few minutes before leaving his hiding place and taking a different route to get back to the League's hideout, deciding to bring the book with him. It may not be very useful exactly but it would be interesting at the very least. At least this run wasn't a total bust, he got enough supplies to last them for a few days and he got an interesting book.Ā
When he got back to the league he set the supplies that he was able to get his hands on at the table that they got their hands on from someone throwing it out. The table had stains, scratches, and a leg that had been broken (they used a few bricks to keep the table up). Shigaraki went back to staring at the book a bit trying to figure out why someone would try and get rid of it.Ā
āHey Shigs! Glad you're back, whatcha got?ā Toga asked, coming into the room and taking a seat on the plush chair they'd gotten alongside the table. It had a few holes and tears in it, with it also missing a leg that they worked through with a random book none of them read.Ā
āI got some canned food and microwavables, plus some fruits and vegetables we'll have to eat quickly to make sure they don't go bad. I unfortunately wasn't able to get my hands on much, got chased by the number one hero and his buddy.ā Shigaraki explained, not looking up from his examination.Ā
āA-huh, and what's up with the book?ā Dabi asked, leaning over his shoulder and looking at the odd book.Ā
āUnsure, I found it in the woods. It looked like it was just abandoned there.ā Shigaraki explained, nudging Dabi away from him.Ā
āOooooo, mysterious!ā Toga exclaimed with a giggle, seeming to be rather excited about the potential from the strange book.Ā
Dabi let out a laugh and backed up a bit, āPretty weird that you decided to grab a random book you found, for all you know it was there for a reason.ā
āYeah, and a good chunk of our furniture was probably thrown away for a reason and yet we're still using it.ā Shigaraki replied with an eye roll.Ā
Dabi let out another laugh and he jumped onto the couch and started lounging, which was another item they grabbed on trash day. It was absolutely covered in stains and holes that had fluff sticking out of it. Shigaraki couldn't help but think about how he was proving his point.Ā
āAre you sure it was a good idea to take the book though? I mean, you got no context on why it was left in the woods instead of just thrown away.ā Spinner pointed out, feeling a bit nervous about the risk that was potentially brought into the hideout.Ā
āOh don't be such a worry wart Spinner! I'm sure that it'll be fine, it's not like he answered the question of some lady with a face mask on!ā Toga said with a giggle.Ā
āIf you say soā¦ā Spinner said awkwardly, clearly not fully believing it.Ā
Shigaraki decided to head into his āroomā with the book in order to take a close look, he'd rather not be annoyed by the league while trying to understand things. His room was less of an actual room and more like a box. He had a bed in the corner that was absolutely covered in stains from being thrown out and was worn-out through years of use from the previous owners, a desk that was a patchwork of different types of wood that he used to keep his electrics (laptop and Nintendo devices), and a pin board on the wall that he used to keep all the information he found important in order. He had two piles of clothes off to the side of his room, one full of clothes he needed to get clean and the other were good to be worn for longer. He took off his jacket and tossed it into his ācan still be wornā pile and toed off his shoes and socks, he took a seat on his bed and opened the book to see what was in its pages.Ā
He got hit with the ramblings from someone named āStanford Pinesā, he went on about how he believed some guy named āBillā was dead, how he had checked his brothers mind and some statue to see if he could possibly come back, how he had gotten rid of all momentums of him (including all one dollar bills), how he he had found this book and tried to get rid of it but it kept coming back, how the book had some odd properties (such as changing itself based off the reader), and pleading to not read the book and to not trust it's contents. Shigaraki thought for a moment, if this was true then this could be a rather big risk with unknown reward. He decided to continue on just to see what would happen, finding a page about āsummoning Bill Cipherā. He thought a little bit more about what he should do before going for it; he opted not to put his name in the book though. He put his hand on the right page, took a deep breath, and said ātime to get weirdā, and turned the page.Ā
He didn't know what he expected, but what he found was definitely odd. The words weren't coming into view properly, some sentences started and ended abruptly, everything seemed to be trying to put itself together in a way that would be interesting but it didn't know what to do; he silently wondered if wearing the gloves messed with the book. He decided that he was just tired and that's why things weren't looking right so he set the book to the side, keeping it open so as to not have to reopen it in the morning, and went to sleep.Ā
Shigaraki āawokeā to a black void with some transparent blue objects floating about, he could tell rather easily that he wasn't really awake because he wasn't in pain like he normally was. He looked around the area to try and understand what was happening and saw a rather stylish yellow triangle with a few cracks in his body. He didn't seem to exactly seem to be paying attention, more so mumbling to himself.Ā
āWhat is with this guy, why is his mind so damn jumbled, I can't believe out of everyone who found my book it had to be someone whose thoughts are moving so fast.ā The triangle mumbled to himself.Ā
āUh, hello? Where the hell am I?ā Shigaraki questioned, already mentally prepared for a fight.Ā
The triangle seemed to have snapped out of whatever angry thoughts he was dealing with and quickly seemed to pipe up to give some sort of speech or something.Ā
āWhy hello there! I'm Bill Cipher, great to meet you Shigaraki! As for where you are, you're in the dreamscape, in other words my playground!ā The triangle man exclaimed, seeming to intentionally making himself over the top.Ā
āHuh, so you're the guy that he was trying to warn me about.ā Shigaraki said dismissively. The mention of āheā caused Bill to immediately scowl.Ā
āYeah, yeah. That would be me. Clearly it didn't work if you summoned me!ā Bill continued, trying to push past the warnings that were given.Ā
āI suppose not. So, what's your deal?ā Shigaraki questioned.Ā
āWell whatever do you mean?ā Bill asked, trying to play dumb.Ā
āWhat, do you, want? I know that no oneās that upbeat when meeting you unless they want something, so what is it?ā Shigaraki pushed, not willing to sit through the pleasantries that commonly came with social interaction.Ā
āWell it's simple really! I want to regain my physical form and bring some fun to your boring world!ā Bill explained, clearly holding some details back.Ā
āAnd by āfunā you mean āchaosā.ā Shigaraki pointed out nonchalantly.Ā
āWell aren't you a smart one, yes that would be the case. But it won't be that big of a deal! You'll be fine in all the mayhem as long as you help me out! You'll be on top of the world, ruler of everything, be the one in control!ā Bill exclaimed, clearly trying to tempt him into some type of deal.Ā
āI don't really want any of that, it's not like I would know what to do with myself anyway.ā Shigaraki replied, getting Bill to clearly panic a bit.Ā
āWell that's fine as I can give you anything! Fame, money, knowledge, power, absolutely anything!ā Bill continued to try and tempt, which Shigaraki found amusing.Ā
āWell I don't want fame, I absolutely hate people so people acting as though they know me would piss me off. Money would be useful but it's not like I can buy things normally, difficult to forget this face after all, plus I could always just do what I do already which is steal. Iām already tired all the damn time so having more knowledge would just be more exhausting. And when it comes to power, anything you could offer me I could gain on my own with enough time.ā Shigaraki replied with a smirk, he was enjoying making this guy sweat a bit.Ā
āThen what do you want?!ā Bill questioned angrily, clearly getting pissed about how his normal tempting tactics weren't working. He was quite literally turning red with.Ā
Shigaraki thought for a few minutes. He never really thought about what he wants, like at all. His destiny was set in stone after all, what he wanted never really mattered. But his teammates? Their destinies were flexible, they could still do so much when it comes to their ācarriesā in villainy. So while he didn't want anything, he was certain that his team would want more out of this than he ever has. It clicked in his mind what he āwantedā out of a deal with Bill.Ā
āHow about this? If you can play nice and be a team player when it comes to my team then I'll help you regain that physical form of yours, with the caveat of you fulfilling your end first of course.ā Shigaraki explained.Ā
āDeal!ā Bill exclaimed, seeming to not think to ask follow up questions, and extending a hand engulfed in blue flames for a hand shake. Shigaraki thought for a second.Ā
āSorry, I don't really do handshakes, personal hang ups, will this work?ā He asked as he offered his pinkie in the same manner one would for a pinkie promise, it was a little embarrassing to have to do something so childish but with him handshakes could be deadly.Ā
āYep, yep! That'll work!ā Bill exclaimed, taking Shigaraki's pinkie finger to seal the deal.Ā
āFantastic.ā Shigaraki said with a grin, happy to see things going his way for once in life.Ā
āSo who are your teammates anyway?ā Bill finally asked, clearly not prepared for the answer.Ā
āWell there's Spinner, who is my favorite. Hurt him and I will find a way to kill you a second time. That may sound like a joke but it isn't, I will actually kill you. Then there's Dabi, heās an absolute prick. As long as you know how to stand your ground in a verbal sparring match things will work out just fine. There's Kurogiri, my other favorite. Can't imagine what you can do to piss him off. There's also Mr. Compress, a rather respectable fellow. Only downside is that he'll steal your stuff just to prove that he can, personally I let him get away with it because it annoys Toga. Speaking of Toga, she's rather insane and obsessive. She'll stab you just for some blood but she's good enough at what she does that she won't hit an artery, though that doesn't really hurt as much as her emotionally dissecting you. And finally there's Twice, the embodiment of being incapable of making up his mind. He's incredibly confusing to be around but once you figure him out he's actually rather pleasant to be around.ā Shigaraki explained, counting up on his fingers as he explained each league member. Meanwhile Bill just stared off, as if it's just now setting in how difficult this will be.Ā
āOkay, okay. I can work with this! I've dealt with much weirder and much more fucked up!ā Bill said, Shigaraki was pretty sure that he was half lying to himself.Ā
āWhatever you say pal.ā Shigaraki said with a smirk, which Bill did his best to ignore. āNow, as for how the league can really interact with you, hmā¦you can communicate through that book of yours right?ā He asked.Ā
āOf course I can! It's what allows me to really make a deal with someone!ā Bill answered.Ā
āWell that could be used as the primary form of communication, but that does lead into an issue of getting attention to talk. Hmā¦ā Shigaraki said, trying to think this through.Ā
āI mean, I could always possess your body to talk to them!ā Bill suggested.Ā
āOh, well that makes things a bit easier. Alright, I'll allow you to possess me from time to time in order to talk to them in a more typical manner.ā Shigaraki stated.Ā
āAlright! Well, it appears as though you're about to wake up, you'll be seeing you again rather soon, Shigaraki!ā Bill exclaimed, trying to let the situation at hand roll off of him.Ā
Shigaraki actually woke up this time and looked around. He rubbed his head and let out a yawn. He started wondering if it was all a dream until he looked over at the book, which now had the sentence, āGreat doing business with you!ā with a drawing of a triangle next to it. He grinned at seeing, now knowing that it was all real.Ā
āWell, things have certainly gotten a lot more interesting.ā Shigaraki thought as he got up, putting on his jacket and shoes, grabbing the book, and heading into the league's makeshift living room.Ā
āGood morning Tomura Shigaraki, how did you sleep?ā Kurogiri asked politely.Ā
āGreat actually! Much better than I have in years. Gonna need you to collect the others for a team meeting, got some stuff to talk about.ā Shigaraki answered, setting the open book down on the table.Ā
āThis early in the morning? That's a bit unusual of you.ā Kurogiri questioned, already heading off to do as asked.Ā
āEh, what can I say? You can discover some rather fascinating things through dreams.ā Shigaraki said with a grin.Ā
It only took a few minutes for the league to assemble in the living room. Shigaraki sat in the middle of the couch, Spinner was to his right, Dabi was to his left, Mr. Compress was sitting in the plush chair, Kurogiri was standing to the side of the couch, Twice was sitting besides Dabi, and Toga was sitting on the arm of the couch.Ā
āSo, what's this meeting about?ā Dabi questioned, doing his best to seem like he didn't give a shit.Ā
āWell, as most of you know I found this book abandoned in the woods yesterday,ā Shigaraki started while gesturing towards the book, āand I found something incredibly interesting about this book. It is apparently hosting a deal making being known as Bill. So, I set things up in such a way that we basically have a new teammate, with us having a deal that if he acts as a team player then I'll help him regain his physical form. He'll primarily be communicating through the book, but I have made the offer that he'll be able to possess my body sometimes to make communication easier.ā He continued to explain.Ā
āWooooah! Well isn't this an incredible turn of events, we have a new friend!ā Toga exclaimed with a laugh, clearly rather happy about the possibilities here.Ā
āYou sure you didn't just eat some of Spinner's gummies by accident? Seems a lot more likely than what you're talking about.ā Dabi joked, not taking this seriously.Ā
āFirst, I don't keep those lying around so unless he was digging in my room he wouldn't even be able to find them let alone have some. Second, Weed doesn't cause hallucinations, prick.ā Spinner pointed out exasperatedly.Ā
āPlus, if you don't believe me, check out the book.ā Shigaraki suggested.Ā
With that the book changed a bit with the words, āHey flesh bags, Bill Cipher here! Everything he said is true!ā with a few triangle drawings also appearing.Ā
āHoly shit-ā Dabi started, clearly startled by the book changing.Ā
āIt was true! This'll be so incredible! Demon, burn the book!ā Twice exclaimed, the startling revelation leaving his thoughts scattered more than usual.Ā
āDo not burn the book, I'm pretty sure it'll just come back.ā Shigaraki said calmly.Ā
āWell okay, we now haveā¦a possessed book as a teammate?ā Spinner couldn't help but question.Ā
āEh, more like a demonic triangle that's currently possessing a book.ā Shigaraki explained.Ā
āWell, okay. Guess this is what we're dealing with nowā¦ā Spinner said, clearly unsure on how to feel about the situation at hand.Ā
āWell at least we got one more teammate to assist in our goals, even if it's a little out of the realm of normal.ā Mr. Compress stated, trying to make things make sense in his head.Ā
āPlus a new friend!ā Toga exclaimed happily.Ā
āAre you sure that this decision will end well Tomura Shigaraki? Last I checked, deals with demons do not normally end well.ā Kurogiri questioned.Ā
āIt'll be fine, don't worry! I've got this all figured out.ā Shigaraki answered, he wasn't completely telling the truth but close enough.Ā
āIf you insist.ā Kurogiri nodded.Ā
āHey, I'm right here you know! Quite rude to be talking about me as though I'm not here!ā Bill said through the book.Ā
āRight, right! Sorry about that! So, do you already know who we are or should we introduce ourselves?ā Toga offered.Ā
āYep, already know who each of you are! Kurogiri, Spinner, Toga, Dabi, Twice, Mr. Compress! Benefit of being an all seeing entity!ā Bill explained, showing a āphotoā of each of them next to their name.Ā
āWooooooah! You can see everything?ā Toga asked, clearly fascinated by this detail.Ā
āOf course! It's a rather incredible thing if you ask me!ā Bill explained.Ā
āOhohohohohoho! Well ain't that an interesting power!ā Toga exclaimed excitedly.Ā
āOkay, okay. Glad that you're able to adapt to this situation so well.ā Dabi said with an eye roll.Ā
āOh come Dabi. Let's be real, we'll all warm up to this eventually. After all, we warmed up to you.ā Mr. Compress cracked, getting an annoyed huffed in response.Ā
āYeah, guess that's accurate.ā Dabi muttered angrily.Ā
Shigaraki let out a sigh and relaxed a bit. He was rather happy with how things were turning out so far. All Bill has to do is play nice and they'll be getting along just fine, then he just has to figure out how to get Bill that physical form. Though he did know very well that it takes a while for the league to truly warm up to anyone, even if Toga was excited about all this and Mr. Compress was being polite. He didn't know how long it was going to take, but hopefully it will be in his lifetime.Ā
(Author's Note: Hello people, I hope you enjoyed this fic! This has been the first time that I've tried to combine my art with my writing, I hope that it turned out well! For the sake of full transparency, I will say that for the characters I use Gacha Life 2 as a base while I draw the backgrounds by hand. It's mostly that anatomy is my least favorite part of drawing, so I prefer to take short cuts when it comes to drawing them lol. Anyway, if you like my writing, you can check out my AO3 account, I may post this there as well not sure yet. You'll primarily find Spinaraki fics there as it's my main OTP, but you'll find some stuff where that's more of a side thing. I have a ton of WIP that I'm sure I'll get through (someday) so maybe keep your eye out for that!)
(Part 2)
Just a friendly reminder that Horikoshi always intended for Tomura and Touya to be the closest thing to soulmates/eachotherās identical parallel. Their thoughts and the reasonings? Practically the same. Theyāll tear themselves apart just for a shred of validation; a plea for someone to see them, even as they destroy the others around them. Who cares is innocents get hurt, right? In the end, the result will be far more valuable than a couple of strangerās lives.
Dabiās entire philosophy is quite literally to burn everything around him into ash, including himself and Endeavour, all to liberate himself and others from the false shackles of hero society. This ideology *perfectly* coincides with Tomura, who not only wants to carve out a place in this dejected world for all of his followers, but to also liberate and destroy. Even as children their ideologies would have agreed with one another, which is, āWhy should my fatherās limitations on me restrict who I am? I just want to be free.ā
The meaning behind their names. Tenko ( 転弧) & Touya ( ēē¢); Tenkoās name has the kanji with the meaning ābowā in it. and Touyaās name has the kanji with the meaning āarrowā in it. Hand in hand. Another interesting fact of their names is that ē(TÅ) means "lamp", or "lightā, and 転 (Ten) means "turn", or "revolveā, which could signify the instinctive nature of humans (or Tenko himself?) to ārevolveā around light (or Touyaās fire/heat in a metaphorical sense).
If we also want to talk metaphorical, ālightā could be used to describe the lightheartedness of Touyaās character before Enji destroyed him at the seams, and we know that as a child, Tenko was a loving, empathetic child, attracted to ālightā (the softness and kindness of others). He played games with rejected children, defended them, and acted as a āheroā in his own way. This parallel of Touya needing a savior and Tenko readily taking in others who need it, is very interesting to see, especially when we literally see this acted out later on in the LOV!
One more theory I haveā¦now hear me outā¦also alludes to their name meanings. ē¢ (Ya) means "arrowāā¦but 弧 (Ko) means "arc," indicating a curved path or trajectory. Now, arrows typically travel in a straight line or path when shot. Except for when theyāre deemed, ādefective.ā You know where Iām going with this. Itās almost a completed story with those two characters. A defective arrow that lead a curved path, all because of a manufacturing/crafting issue. Sorry if that hit you hard, me too.
Iām so delusional about them. Itās totally okay.
Late asf belated bday to my favorite deadly mophead <3
Happy birthday Tomura!!! In my mind youāre still alive and kicking š¤§
The parallels between Shigaraki and Deku make me SICK to my stomach. Tomura is the personification of that quote,
āYou robbed me of my life. I could have been humanāI could have been alive.ā
They so easily could have had their roles switched. Two vulnerable children who wanted to change the world for the better, but were denied because of society placing expectations and limits upon them. Both of them deemed worthless by someone they look up to (Bakugou and Shigarakiās family), when all they needed was someone to give them that external validation they craved.
You could have been alive, Tomura. But you fought to the end, in the hopes that you could be a hero for the outcasts who needed it. A stopped heart once beat just as furiously as a live one. Even when you refused to be saved Tenko, your body simply moved on its own, didnāt it?
Shigaraki Tomura and Izuku Midoriya are characters who have far more in common than they have differences. They even have the exact same origin point as a kid who wanted to become a hero more than anything else, but was told by everyone around them they couldnāt be on. The difference between them represents the inherent unfairness of the world, Midoriya was saved and Shigarki wasnāt. However, rather than working together to try to fix the flaws in the unfair world that hurt both of them Shigaraki and Midoriya are forced to fight each other due to the mistakes of their predecessors forcing them into conflict. This is a meta on their extremely unique relationship and why they need to come to an understanding in order to fight the real enemy.Ā

How has this NEVER occurred to me oh my god. And the way her hand is on top of his head is SO symbolic of multiple things.
1. Her quirk. The fact that so many of the panels where we see her, sheās using her quirk to soar above. THAT could be the symbolism. But thereās also other possibilities.
2. Her hero status. Could her hand being atop his head, almost as if all of the hands are forming a temple, with her being on top, suggest some symbolism of āenlightenment/oppositionā, considering the total opposites of hero and villain grandson? It feels like a purposeful mockery by AFO (and likely is) to her character and everything she stood for, to fight AFO until her last breath, just for a piece of her to be forever witnessing the atrocities that her grandson commits against hero society.
Idk, Iām not a poet, and Iām certainly not good with words, so maybe someone else could put my thoughts into words. Just some quick analysis/thinking I was doing! :3
Okay, I just saw the leaks of 270 and I'M REELING.
But you know what freaks me out even more? This panel.
Notice where their hands are located? It's the exact locations where Shigaraki had their hands over him.
But that's not what truly shocked me...
Shigaraki was said to have given an 'extra hand' (no pun intended) by All For One
Now whose hand was on Shigaraki's head?
This confirms a theory that some people had for a while.
Late ass repost considering this wasā¦..six years ago. (Yeah, I couldnāt believe it either.) But nosing around on Tumblr led me to find this sparkling old gem. Itās truly a wonder that fanbases always manage to come together to analyze an interesting character.
While Shigaraki is introduced to us the readers as an unstable manchild, bent on killing All Might the symbol of good in the manga for unknown reasons as the story delves more and more into Shigarakiās background it becomes quickly apparent heās not just some villain without cause to be a villain.Ā
The stroy makes a clear case that Shigaraki is a victim of the system that fell through the cracks. However, he was not just neglected by the people and heroes who failed to save him, but also by his savior All for One, who adopted him solely for the purpose of becoming a villain. This post is going to be making the case that All for One is an abusive mentor, and Shigaraki is a clear victim of abuse who shows several traits of it in the manga.Ā
The kind of abuse that Shigaraki endured is pretty much the reverse side of what Endeavor did to Todoroki. Rather than having a child for the sole purpose of becoming a hero to succeed him, and then forcing that child into training and raising him with the expectation of being a successor, Shigaraki went through the reverse being raised from the young age and put through dehumanizing training to be a villain. The difference being that Shigarakiās story is mostly untold to the audience at this point unlike Todoroki who is one of the main characters the story follows, so a lot of the signs of abuse for Shigaraki are instead hinted to or eluded at for the audience.Ā
Shigaraki is first presented to us as a very inhuman character. The traits that heās shown having at this point are meant to otherize him, they are classical villain traits. Poor posture, creepy faces, lack of empathy.Ā
Shigaraki jumps straight to violence towards children as an acceptable step to getting what he wants. Heās a very thorough other, as it will be elaborated on later by Deku in the manga heās not really someone others can understand at this point, heās just lashing out baselessly. Basically his way of thinking and his way of acting is meant to seem as foreign as possible to normal people, and his incomprehensibility is supposed to make him look like a villain in our eyes. Because at this point the audience does not know who Shigaraki is at all, heās just some creepy guy who showed up to attack some kids. However, there are lots of hints at deeper characterization in this scene.Ā
In his introduction scene Shigarakiās childishness is demonstrated again and again as well. He refers to all the other low ranking villains heās brought along asĀ āplaymatesā.Ā
When heās faced with setbacks, Shigaraki seems to have no true method of handling his emotions and resorts to excoriation, self harm instead hurting his own skin to vent the frustration.Ā
Excoriation disorder (also referred to as chronic skin-picking or dermatillomania) is a mental illness related to obsessive-compulsive disorder. It is characterized by repeated picking at oneās own skin which results in skin lesions and causes significant disruption in oneās life.
Shigaraki compliments his heroes too like a child would, praising how cool they are. He also compares the current scenario to a video game multiple times, referring to the Nomu as the final boss.Ā
Attention is drawn over and over again to his sickly posture, and once more Shigaraki canāt handle setbacks or failure, and the negative emotions that come with those things at all. His first response is to self harm, scratching at his neck until he draws blood, his second is to resort to violence and threaten Kurogiri on a whim only barely restraining himself and his third is to give up. Once again employ the video game language.Ā
When All Might interrupts weāre given further signs of Shigarakiās instability. He addresses the hand on his face as father, the hand that grips his face almost violently, and not only that but he apologizes when it gets knocked away. This is another recurring trend his fixation on that one hand.Ā
Hereās another important part to Shigarakiās writing. Again and again heās seen by the outside system as just another villain who enjoys violence. Shigaraki also accepts that categorization very readily.Ā āPeople who fight for ideals have a different sort of fire in their eyesā, Shigaraki accepts the assertion that he fights for no reason at all very easily even though we find out later in the manga that is not the case.Ā
Heās such a baby, really.Ā
So, from this introduction scene Shigaraki seems like an extremely irrational villain out to kill All Might, and therefore a pure evil to fight the pure good who is All Might one of the most wholesome heroes in the series for no rational reason why. One with no morals or restraints willing to even attack children, and who is so irrationally violent he snaps and lashes out at the smallest of setbacks.Ā
This is just the shallow lens weāre given to him at the start of the series however, because at this point we are only following the perspective of the heroes and not the villains, and Shigaraki is a definite outsider character. Most normal, rational people can find nothing to sympathize with in his mindset, nor can they understand him and thatās the deliberate point to his character. Heās mean tot be somebody who fell through the cracks.Ā
If you read closer, Shigaraki is coded with a lot of traits of mental illness. First, whenever there is any kind of setback Shigarakiās first response is to punish himself and self harm repeatedly. He canāt handle any stress at all without channeling it into some kind of violence and heās just as willing to do it to himself as he is to others.Ā
Next Shigaraki is so observant that even in the middle of a fight he can keep a running track of a deatil as small as the amount of time that Aizawa blinks. Shigaraki doesnāt have a specific disorder given to him by the author so I wonāt go that far into depth about it, but itās a common neuroatypical trait like that to be able to pick up on really fine details while at the same time seeming to miss out on a lot of obvious ones like social cues.Ā
Thirdly Shigaraki is a giant man-child as emphasized over and over again above. Not only does he have almost no control of his emotions, falling into panic, getting nervous or upest easily but he also frames everything as a game around him. His most common way of dealing with those emotions is like a child to throw a tantrum about it and visibly lash out almost immediately rather than try to handle his upset feelings. He even has the body language of a child, posing meekly like this from time to time.Ā
He dresses in sh a black shirt, black slacks or sweat pants, and bright red shoes which is not only meant to suggest a childish lack of care in his own appearance, but also is something that foils him to Deku a fourteen year old who dresses pretty much the same way. Shigaraki constantly gives shallow praise to the heroes he fights likeĀ āThatās coolā like heās watching them on television. ANd he also is fickle like a child, giving up easily and lacking any kind of dedication and resolve. He also treats a life and death battle where heās willing to kill kids to get what he wants like itās just a game, not at all realizing the stakes. Which his complete and utter lack of empathy, not understanding the emotions of the other people heās terrorizing or hurting to get what he wants is another childish traits as developmentally children are rather unempathic and have a self centered view of the world.
Now normally manchild has negative connotations as a man who deliberately chose not to grow up, and remains selfish, childish, etc. and hurts others with that irresponsible attitude there are also cases where victims of abuse grow into manchildren and retain childish traits into adulthood because they were not given any proper chance at all to grow up.Ā
In that sense you canāt compare everyone with the same yard stick. While yes abuse is not an excuse out of responsibility for every single action a character takes, or their lack of personal self reflection or development thereās still a definite reason why Shigaraki exhibits all of these childish traits. From what we know of his backstory, he was taken in as a child and then raised in a hideout like the bar we see him in with Kurogiri, communicating not with a person who was raising him but rather a person on the other side of a monitor. Which means that itās heavily hinted Shigaraki was raised with little to no human contact, and entirely outside of society.Ā
So a lot of people donāt understand that developmental psychology is important for how a child grows and develops, especially in extremely divergent from the norm cases like Tomuraās upbringing. Heās basically conditioned to be a child soldier if you were to summarize his whole upbringing in more relatable real world terms outside of the MHA hero/villain dichotomy.Ā
Basically everyone is expected to grow up yes, but there are important things like interacting with parents, interacting with children your own age, growing up in a consistently safe environment which encourages children to grow up healthier. Of course there will be people who refuse to grow up no matter how good their life is thatās what most people are referring to when they use the term manchild, but there are also people who donāt receive the ideal circumstances to grow up, and also abuse and harm can further damage these processes.
Most normal people grow up inside of society, they have friends, they go to school everyday and not only do they learn information, but they also learn socially. They learn to think critically about things and therefore are able to self reflect, handle failure, etc⦠They envision the emotions of other people because they interact with them on a day to day basis. Also they are raised in an environment that is generally secure for them.
Then compare this to Shigaraki, as far as we know he grew up with as little human contact as possible because All for One would not want anybody interrupting his pet project. Therefore he lashes out at his own allies and enemies equally. He did not go to school, he had no people he was attached to nor he saw on a daily basis. Most of all he grew up on the other side of the law so he was probably constantly in danger and his life was at jeapordy. So all of these things which are there to help children develop Shigaraki is cut off from. Basically the only things that All for One supplies are things that will make him into a better villain, Nomu, resources, and allies. A child basically raised in a villainās evil lair their entire life who gets most of their social interaction through a voice coming to the end of a montior is going to have extremely low empathy because they were never given a chance to develop empathy. Which makes sense because a villainous mastermind is raising him to be a villain. What good would him hesitating to kill others, or worrying about the victims of his violence do a villain.Ā
So Shigaraki already shows severe signs of neglect, heās dirty, he can barely dress himself, he self harms and canāt handle his emotions and can barely interact with others. His hair and face are both a mess most likely due to complete lack of care, and his own tendency to self harm. These are all developmental problems connected with an abusive upbringing. How is Shigaraki meant to empathize and see the way society sees things when he has grown up entirely outside of society. Shigaraki has been thoroughly dehumanized and treated like a tool by the person who raised him, to condition him to dehumanize others and only see them as tools. Which will suit All for Oneās plans for his sucessor just perfectly. Once again this is nothing that Shigaraki consented to as an adult. A child who was probably less than ten years old lost his only caretakers and then latched onto the only person who gave them any kind of support at all when everybody else passed him by. Shigaraki had basically no choice at all in this upbringing. He was moulded entirely by All for Oneās desires.Ā
So once again, Shigaraki canāt put his motivations into words because heās not motivated by anything really. At this point heās just lashing out, and trying to carry on the expectation that All for One put on his shoulder. Stain even calls him a temper tantrum throwing child, heās lashing out because he has an underlying pain deep within him that he cannot address, heal or fix in any way so heās trying to deal with the emotions through violence. He was also, taught most likely to deal with these emotions this way.
Yet we see All for One, Shigarakiās primary abuser positioning himself as an educator helping with his growth. Even though Shigaraki would have grown normally if he had not grown up in such a remote environment and only interacted with in his growth and development as a hero. So, comparing Deku and Shigaraki right now Deku is also being mentored by another hero but Deku has a home life he can go back to, he has a mom that takes care of him, the mentorship and his growth and training as a hero is something he chose to do. Whereas Shigaraki had little to no choice, and he also has literally no life outside being a villain. Nor did he ever have one because since he was a child he was picked up by All for One and raised for this purpose.Ā
Once again Shigarakiās traits are still there. He basically has no reaction to violence done against him until somebody disturbs the hand on his face. He even laughs it off. Which you know, has implications.
Shigaraki was raised to hate All Might, but also his main conviction is lashing out society because he is not a part of it, and he never will be accepted into it at this point.Ā
Stain even says, as irrational as he is his goal is to upset the status quo that Stain is discontent with which stopped Stain from attacking him any further. Even if they have completely opposite reasons for doing so. And for Shigaraki itās a personal motivation, he fell through the cracks of society, nobody came to save him, and he wants to get back at it. He doesnāt like that everybody else has the comfort and security that he was denied.Ā
Once again we see, Shigaraki has a tendency to lash out baselessly when he has to deal with any pain, or conflict at all. He has no idea how to handle it, he also wasnāt really raised to handle it.
So then the school trip arc comes around and we get more evidence of Shigarakiās stunted behavior, immediately attacking new allies the moment heās introduced to them, not able to socialize with them at all and resorting to violence because heās inĀ āa bad moodā. Kurogiri has to practically act like Shigarakiās handler at this point because he can barely be trusted on his own.
In chapter 69 we get the first bit of self reflection from Shigaraki. When talking to Deku heās honestly trying to figure things out about himself. So, the first thing he mentions is how everybody else unlike him is not living in constant danger and how that seems so odd to him. The peace and security everybody else is enjoying without him makes him very easy to imagine a scenario where he just throws all his carefully laid plans away and starts going into the crowd and going on a killing spree before heās eventually put down.Ā
This makes sense when you consider Shigarakiās environment though, heās one raised outside of society, peace, law and its comforts and denied those things and two he was not taught in any way to value human life at all. Now I argued earlier that Shigaraki is a character who is coded to be highly neurodivergent, and also mentally ill, but I want to clarify I donāt think this violence is a part of his mental illness. This violence is Shigarakiās response to being raised in a violent environment, an environment of constant danger and then going outside and seeing how seemingly peaceful everybody else is. Shigaraki expects violence, itās his number one solution to everything but he doesnāt see that in the society around him and heās confused why heās so different from them. Itās like if you were to take a solider out of a warzone and put them in a suburb of course they would get confused because their expectations for everything are different down to a sensory level.Ā
Shigaraki as a person is constantly in a bad mood, doesnāt seem to enjoy anything about life, is constantly agitated and has no idea how to deal with those emotions. None of these are traits of a villain who was raised in a healthy environment or is particularly even enjoying it.Ā
Heās also very attention hungry and wants people to see his villainous actions. He wants there to be a marked change in society from what he does, he wants to cause ripples. This attention hungry aspect and his inability to function when people arenāt paying attention to him is also another childish trait.Ā
Deku even points this out about Shigaraki. That his mentality is foreign to most people, that people canāt understand why he thinks the way he does, or why he acts the way he does. If you know nothing about his background, he just looks like an irrational, violent, manchild. Of course Deku wouldnāt empathize with him heās very scary and wanted to kill him, but the point is the default is most people wouldnāt empathize with him because Shigaraki is such an outsider who was conditioned and raised in a way so far outside of society nobody can really see him. Heās dehumanized so thoroughly to only play the role of villain. People have trouble seeing him as a victim of any kind because of how much of an outsider or an other he acts like. This is also something that will come up a little bit later.Ā
Then we have Shigarakiās rant which finally establishes what Iāve been saying all along that he resents the whole of society for being safe and secure when he is not, for being saved when he was not and we see him start to uncontrollably flash back to his past as he loses control of his behavior. That Shigaraki in the past either accidentally or on purpose killed his father with his own quirk and then only the hand was left behind leading to his fixation on the hand grabbing his face.Ā
To the point where he carries the hand in his own pocket at all times and his hero disguise is to be have the hand grabbing his face.Ā
Now Shigarakiās costume design eludes to this abusive violence as well. As you can see the hand which he calls father is grappling his face. Allow me to make some rocket science level conclusions here, when a father or adult grips your face in such a manner its usually to be violent towards a child. Couple that with Shigarakiās nonchalance when dealing with pain something thatās deonstrated with twice, when he was shot by a hero and then stabbed by Stain. Also that he chose to make his costume his entire body being covered by those disembodied hands, itās likely the home that Shigaraki was rescued from even before All For One showed up and started influencing him was a violent one.Ā
Shigarakiās official art has him bring grabbed from every angle by other hands, some of them even manipulating his own hands. Thatās pretty clear visual language for a loss of agency and an exploitation, not only violence. Hands covering a body have been used again and again for visual langugae for adult violence towards children in the past.Ā
Hands.Ā
Hands.Ā
Hands.Ā
Itās pretty commonly used visual shorthand. So not only is Shigarakiās costume representative of the violence heās endured, and also he often self harms in response to any kind of minor stress at all, in Shigarakiās next flashback we see more of the condition he grew up in.Ā
Shigaraki was hunched up against a wall, in a phsyically dirty environment where nobody took notice of him. Itās highly likely he wasnāt living in a good place even before All For One showed up. Ye the only person who saw him and helped him was All for One, but that too the words he comforted Shigaraki with was an implicit manipulation.Ā
Notice how the panel is framed. Theyāre encouraging words but rather than shown any kind of warmth or encouragement in the framing of the panel instead the entire background is white noise. This praise is meant to be seen as horrifying. Even though what heās saying is pretty standard words of encouragement, from All For Oneās mouth theyāre meant to be read not only as dangerous but manipulative. Itās reminiscent of the second opening where Shigaraki is kneeling in front of a monitor and All for Oneās hand reaches out and touches his head. A pat on the head is usually a gesture of praise but everything from Shigarakiās posture of totally reverence to the point it comes out of a monitor is uncanny.
This is just more manipulation. Shigaraki is being raised to be entirely dependent on All For One, to exist for the sake of All For One, and being conditioned to think that he owes All For One for every single tiny inhuman scrap of kindness he showed him.
Weāre shown a brief flash of child Shigaraki who is in the aftermath of whatever happened to his father. Heās dirty, his clothes are practically in rags, and the scars around his eyes and the one that splits his lip have already been formed and seem to be childhood injuries. Further hinting that Shigaraki came from some kind of abuse before being picked up by All For One. And itās clear, Shigaraki latched onto the only kind of parental figure he has, All For One is the only person that Shigaraki shows any concern for their well being at first until he loses him. But that doesnāt necessarily mean All For One is a good parental figure by any means, but it does show how starved for affection and any kind of human contact Shigaraki is that heās attached himself to All For One and is willing to carry out the rest of his ideals. All for One basically found an injured and battered kid and moulded him to think that he was his savior and everything he did, every manipulation, raising him outside of society as a tool for a sucessor was kindness and consideration on his part and Shigaraki doesnāt know better because he hasnāt been shown better.
And All For One makes it clear right away he didnāt save Shigaraki out of any altruism at all. He did it primarily to dick around with All Might and also to give himself a successor. It doesnāt really matter who Shimura Tenko is to All For One, just the fact that he carries the shimura bloodline is something that will mess with All Mightās head.Ā
All For One even blatantly says he was raising Shigaraki to be fueled mainly on malice, hatred and his regrets towards society. Not to have any kind of healthy or rational means behind his actions. Also note how Shigaraki doensāt start improving mentally at all until heās separated from All For One. So not only was Shigaraki raised and conditioned to be a crimminal, thereās not really an escape for him in the outside world. Gran Torino calls it foolish to see the boy as a victim.
Imagine if they said this about Eri. If Eri grew up under Chisakiās violent abuse and then Chisaki passed the leadership of the eight precepts onto her, and then afterwards the heroes who were fighting her saidĀ āYou canāt think of Eri as anything less than a villain, sure she was raised by the yakuza cut off from the outside world and experimented on everyday, but now sheās a violent crimminal so she canāt be seen as anything else.ā
Shigaraki is dehumanized by not only the person who raised him but also society, he dehumanizes society in return and nothing is able to get resolved and no progress is made because the chain of abuse remains unbroken. Shigaraki will be a victim, even if he lashes out violently. There are very rare and few circumstances where children raised by adults who have all power over them conditioning them to be violent, and to grow up in a certain way entirely outside of society viewing no alternative for themselves are able to not be conditioned in that way. Even Eri saw herself as something horrible and ugly because Chisaki told her so every day and she had nobody else to tell her otherwise.Ā
Shigarakiās abuse is the same as the abuse Endeavor gave to Todoroki. He wasnāt raised as a child to be loved and grow up into their own person, but rather as a creation to inherit their father figureās fight for them, and because of that they were cut off from the rest of the world socially as well.Ā
Shigaraki was only ever intended to carry on All For Oneās will and not have a will of his own. Not only does All For One not see Shigaraki as an indivdual, but heās also tried to do the same thing in the past.Ā
All For One is willing to go so far as to beat up, lock up and starve his younger brother to coerce him into seeing his side of things. In the case of the original holder of One for All it doesnāt work. Itās not a case of Shigaraki being a bad person and the brother being a good person though.
The brother was already an adult when this manipulation was attempted, which meant he already had his own set of ideals, was probably raised in a family, and knew what society was. Thatās entirely different from trying those kind of techniques on a child who has one a complete power difference, two no positive ideals of their own, no positive role models, no critical thinking skills to question the information theyāre being fed and four is completely emotionally, and in all other ways dependant on All For One. So yeah, manipulation techniques work way easier like this on children because children donāt have their own thoughts and idea formed yet.Ā
Basically, All For One is shown to be completly willing to beat up, starve to death and abuse his own brother who he claimed to love, which must tell you how he feels about Shigaraki who he really only sees as a tool to one get back at All Might and two carry on his legacy for him. Thereās a whole lot of implciations on how Shigaraki must have been treated which are not shown on screen but it is established that this is how All For One Manipulates people and gets their loyalty.Ā
So, there goes my long winded analysis on what exactly kind of character Shigaraki is. Heās a victim of abuse, but heās not a good victim, nor is he an excusable one. Heās the kind of victim that everybody will see as a villain, and that society canāt accept. Heās ugly, his way of thinking is not understandable to most people because he was raised so far outside of society, he lashes out at almost every given opportunity. Not only is he a victim, heās a victim that wonāt be saved by the traditional heroes. Twice puts it best.Ā
The people the heroes save are always the good virtuous ones. However, considering how much of a victim Shigaraki is I hope rather than letting those who fell through the cracks fall further, the manga is shaping up to reform the hero system so that people who fell through the cracks can be recognized and saved by the heroes too. Which is why ultimately I believe Shigaraki is still a victim and also one in need of saving despite whee his current actions are leading him.Ā
This AU is really cute. Love any idea where the villains as kids are given a different setting, it's so cute.
Dichotomy au by @mymhameme
You're au is really cute and I love your incorporation of overhaul in the AU. Him being the doctors assistant is such a fantastic idea.
Oboro is also such a fun idea to mess around in aswell considering he escaped with the kids and chisaki.
Based on an old comic I made before we got that awesome LOL scene between them.
Can't wait to level him up!
He looks so good>:)
