it sucks how neurodiversity terms have become misused by neurotypicals, and then when i show my struggle with that actual thing, I get treated like I'm dramatic. I'm tired man :/ like no janis, you're not going non-verbal just because you stopped talking willingly. if you are non-verbal you cannot speak at all verbally. (I'm not non verbal tho so could be wrong) if you mean situational mutism, that feels like someone taped my fucking mouth shut, and I would not be able to talk then to save my life. I'm tired of seeing the terms non-verbal, overstimulated, hyperfixation, and the like misused. ughhhh
doing all my homework in a few hour period that I was supposed to be working on over the past 3 weeks then letting myself engage in my hyperfixation as a little treat
why can anxiety cause psychical symptoms. why is it allowed to do that. i don't like that. no
Sitting on my couch, nothing at all is happening... I don't work tomorrow... But my heart is racing and so are my thoughts... Wishing I knew how to change my life so that who I am can be who I am, freely expressing and enjoying who I am... So I don't have to worry about the future... So I don't have to have an autopilot for worrying and fear...
Teacher: No talking during the test.
Me and my autistic friend who sometimes go nonverbal: *sign language*
I'm still working up the courage to ask my mum if I can get tested because this is a genuine part of my day to day life, and my school psychologist said it might be a good idea. I live the way you wrote this btw!! It's awesome!!!
I.
this is the first lesson you learn: you are always wrong.
there is no electric hum buzzing through the air. there is no stinging bite to the sweetness of the mango. there is no bitter metallic tang to the water.
there is no cruelty in their laughter, no ambiguity in the instructions, no reason to be upset. there is no bitter aftertaste to your sweet tea, nothing scratchy about your blanket.
the lamps glow steadily. they do not falter.
II.
this is the second lesson you learn: you are never right.
you are childish, gullible, overly prone to tears. you are pedantic, combative, deliberately obtuse. you are lazy, unreliable, never on time.
you’re always making up excuses, rudely interrupting, stepping on people’s shoes. you’re always trying to get attention, never thinking about anyone else, selfish through and through.
it’s you that’s the problem. the lamps are fine.
III.
this is the third lesson you learn: you must always give in.
mother knows best. father knows best. doctor knows best. teacher knows best. this is the proper path. do not go astray.
listen to your elders, respect your betters, accept what’s given to you as your due. bow to the wisdom of experience, the education of the professional, the clarity of an external point of view.
what do you know about lamps, anyway?
Me personally, I love the fact that my boss accidentally hired staff that are ⅓ adhd survivors.
I say this as I myself am an adhd survivor.
Survivor because it's like there's a gremlin on my shoulder making me do things impulsively. I'm a survivor.

This is my favorite comment on AO3.
You may wonder, who is Kae and why is this my favorite comment on AO3? Well Kae is a MHA OC I made to replace the role of Shigaraki, since this was an AU where he ended up becoming a hero. I still needed someone to make the LOV, so I made Kae to replace Shigaraki's canon role.
The reason why it's my favorite comment? I didn't write him with the intention of bring neurodivergent. The reason why he gets those vibes is because I'm neurodivergent. I just find the fact that I accidentally made a character neurodivergent, purely because I don't understand how neurotypical's brain works to be fucking hilarious.
I research about autism a lot lately, because I think I might have it. Idk guys, are all people afraid of using words "all", "always", "everybody" and etc? It can probably be a symptom of autism because common trait of autistic people is "often taking things literally" and maybe I use a lot of "probably", "It can be that", "quited often" because of this.
the neurodivergent experience:
20% of the time: wowwieee!!! i love my passions and interests!!!!! they make me so happy i want to jump up and down!!!!! weee!!!!!!! :3333333333
80% of the time: this mind is a prison
I love rediscovering my old interests bc I already know stuff about it but I get to learn/remember them again and fall in love with them on a deeper level
hey neurodivergents have u ever doubted ur neurodivergence? like hey what if im overreacting about this neurodivergent shit what if im neurotypical and faking it
i love this sm
I made this for a class assignment on what neurodivergent means to me
Update: I made a Shadow version :)
Edit: Hey guys if you're gonna repost my art on other platforms please ask me before hand, I'd like to know where it's going.
Plus it's fun for me to look at peoples responses on platforms I'm not on ♥️
to be honest i don't really like that sometimes representation makes autistic people look like just silly little dudes who all that colourful and happy
like okay sure autistic people have a right to be happy and enjoy things but i wanna see the not-so-happy part of life. yeah, people portray stuff like going nonverbal and sensory overload and all that. but what about those time when you have to shut up mid sentense because you don't wanna sound rude? when you choose to stay silent and exclude yourself from conversations? when you over think what you all the time? when you feel to much and people keep trying to talk to you and you need to shove your feelings down because otherwise you will snap at them? when you have to prepare yourself for hours to simply answer the text from a friend? when something out of your control happens and it changes all your routine and you just sitting there trying not to cry? when your family forget to tell you that you all going to visit relatives and you have 0 time to prepare yourself?
i'm gonna be honest with you: been neurodivergent sucks but lack of opportunity to see people struggling with the same shit sucks more
I'll save you the read. We think he's a cunt.
I HATE BEING AUTISTIC Σヽ(゚Д゚; )ノ

no neurodivergent infighting here
so, here’s how the show works I give you a dumb rule that humans follow, and then I sometimes rant about it.
Eye contact.
Dear power why? Why do we have to look at peoples eyes? They’re gross they’re slimy I don’t wanna look at them. Thank you for coming to my TED talk about why eyes are gross. (Funny, I’ll willingly dissect a cows eye with joy but the moment I have to look at a human eye, I will freak out.)
Art fight! …..
Okay, not just that….
Fourth of July?
Well, yeah, that is part of it, but I’m actually referring to
Disability Pride Month!!!
To everyone (but especially other disabled folks);
Whether your disability is physical or mental, visible or invisible, cureable or uncurable, professionally diagnosed or not, or something you’ve been grappling with for a while or just recently…
Always remember these things!:
You are just as valuable, worthy of love, and deserving of respect as non-disabled folks;
There is no such thing as “not being disabled enough” to seek out the support you need;
It’s very okay to ask for help— you are not weak for doing so;
You are not lazy, useless, or a failure for merely experiencing the symptoms you experience;
Your life is not inherently less meaningful or fulfilling, just because you’re unable to do as much as a healthy person;
I’m very proud of you all for pulling through and getting to today, even with all the struggles (yes, even if I’m a stranger to you /gen)
I hope you all have a wonderful July and beyond! Be sure to take care of yourselves and be kind to yourselves!
What are tone tags
in short, tone tags are used to help indicate tone of any given message. this is helpful for folks like me who struggle to interpret tone! here’s an example (pay attention to the bolded tags):
“[name] is a really cool person! like, just look at them, they’re glowing. /gen”
“[name] is a really cool person! like, just look at them, they’re glowing. /s”
the “/gen” tag clarifies that this is a genuine statement, versus the “/s” tag indicating the speaker is being sarcastic. this may seem obvious to you given the context of the conversation, but to someone who can’t judge tone well, you can see how much of a difference these statements are, despite the text being the same. one is positive and supportive, the other critical.
a good thing to do to determine how often you should use tone tags is ask the person you’re talking with, especially if they’re open about being neurodivergent. different people will have different preferences! using tags like these can save you (and the person who needs them) a lot of miscommunication errors, leading to smoother conversations.
if you want more information about tone tags and how to use them, consult this website! thanks for asking :]
I wonder if my personal outrage at fairies in so many different froms of media being made out to be perfect, pure, cute, and harmless rather than dangerous beings not of this realm is connected to me wanting neurotypicals to leave me alone (through fear or respect if necessary, I don't care) rather than treat me like I am a cute little child that cannot understand anything and never will.
Autistic folks like myself used to be perceived as like changelings and such after all.
I debated whether or not I should make this post, but decided that I have to, because there are so many people, especially in America who do not know this. And it is SO important. So please take 5 minutes of your time and read this.
Let me explain to you why Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s statements about autism are extremely dangerous and should deeply concern you (not only if you are autistic)
For that you need to understand a bit about the history of autism, so you can see the parallels to what is happening now.
The whole "high functioning autism" thing exists for a reason. Not the one you think though. You have probably heard that "high functioning autism" was called Aspergers Syndrome before. This concept was created during the 1930s and 1940s in Austria (although it was not called Aspergers syndrome back then). There is a lot more to this, but for the purpose of this post I will keep it short.
The nazis saw every disabled or mentally ill person, including children as unworthy to live. The main purpose of the Asperger Syndrome was to separate the children into two groups. The ones they could use for their causes, indoctrinate with the nazi values and force to work. And those we would call people with high support needs today, the group they deemed as not worth to even be alive. (This does not mean that "high functioning autistic people were not also killed, they were.)
This diagnosis was a death sentence for those children. To be clear, the nazis did not only kill autistic children and adults but also mentally ill and disabled children and adults.
The next thing you have to understand is that a shocking amount of people knew about this back then and there were parents who willingly and even gladly handed their children to those institutions, knowing they would kill their children, because they themselves saw their own children as worthless, a burden and not valuable to society.
Back to what Robert F. Kennedy said. One of his first statements was "They will never be able to pay taxes." (Refering to autistic children, especially targeting those with high support needs) And that tells you everything you need to know. Because that is how he and a concerning amount of people determine the worth of a person. If they work, if they pay taxes, if they consume and contribute to the economy. If not, they are seen as worth less than working people.
Sounds familiar, does it? Because the nazis used the same measurements to determine peoples worth. That is no coincidence.
They always come for the vulnerable first.
They always come for the minorities first.
It is this belief that a certain group of people is worth more or less than others that is so dangerous!
Because many people already see neurodivergent, mentally ill and disabled people as less. Less worthy, less useful, less human. So it's easy for him to go ahead with those statements, because it does not concern the majority of people.
So please educate yourself about the topic, read into what happened in Nazi Germany. Read about how it happened, how everything started! Because if we don't pay attention to this now, it might be too late!
Reposting for my ND friends!!
REMINDER!!!!
Autism acceptance month starts THIS SATURDAY!
If you/someone you know needs to buy an AAC app, almost all companies have huge sales!!!! (They also do this in October for aac awareness month)
ALL OF THIS + don't be afraid to talk about the often ignored aspects of any disorder you imagine a character with! If you headcanon a character with autism don't just leave out extreme sensory discomfort and meltdowns, if you headcanon a character with PTSD give it more depth than just nightmares, and for the love of God don't stereotype your headcanons!
Yes, absolutely, all neurodiversities (and all disabilities to add to this) deserve representation. GOOD representation.
not many know this but you can actually headcanon neurodivergencies other than adhd and autism. yes, even the Big Scary disorders like DID, schizophrenia or narcissism. no, not only for villains. yes, for the main characters, the important characters, the characters that you love. yeah!!!
one of my personal autism things is getting excited about seeing something related to someone else's interest and showing it to them. i dont care about dr who but whenever i see something about it i used to always point it out to my grandma (who is a huge dr who fan) because seeing the stuff i like makes me happy! and i wanted to make her happy!
autistic people do show love, its just sometimes a bit different than the neurotypical way.
he's very bad at managing his volume when he speaks, he's always either too loud or way too quiet, at this point most of class 1-a has slowly gotten used to his loudness though
most of his sensory issues come with textures, especially food. he still eats things that a young child would because he just never got used to more complex foods with lots of different textures and flavors
denki loves weighted blankets, especially the really heavy, big ones that look like they could crush him
he has some stims he sticks to like flapping his hands or chewing on things like chewelry, but he usually just does whatever he feels like doing at the moment that seems right. can't predict it with him. he has a lot of vocal stims and echolalia
his echolalia is mostly phrases he finds funny or interesting, especially when it fits the current situation. if ur in a car w/ him you'll hear "road work ahead? uh yeah, i sure hope it does" like at least 3 times
kaminari has a surprising amount of meltdowns. they're not exactly common but they happen enough to be noticably frequent.
he feels like he has to be the happy ray of sunshine all the time so he usually bottles up all his problems/stress/sensory issues which leads to the more frequent meltdowns
kirishima tries to be a good allistic ally, he gets a little confused sometimes but denki could talk for hours about autism so he totally has someone to explain lol this post is getting long so i'll post a part 2!!!
Tumblr: Only neurotypical people do X. Neurodivergent people never do X. It's literally never necessary to do X, and if you do, you are by definition acting out of malice.
